Jinx was a blur of manic motion. She pulled her last two grenades, bit the pins out with a feral snarl, and slid across the grease-stained floor, launching them into the thick of the reinforcements.

BOOM!

The explosion didn't just kick up smoke; it cleared the room. When the haze dissipated, Jinx was the only thing left standing among the wreckage. She began to walk, one heavy boot after the other, straight toward the command deck where Silco stood.

Silco watched her approach with a cold, terrifying smile. Without Powder as his daughter—without a weakness to soften his heart—he was the apex predator of the Zaun. He didn't care about the men he'd just lost; they were merely bait to draw her out.

The moment Jinx stepped through the threshold, his real trap snapped shut. Several Shimmer Warriors, hidden in the shadows of the doorway, pounced.

Jinx's madness flickered for a split second, replaced by the cold realization of death. A massive, armored fist was inches from her face.

Whoosh!

A green streak of light cut through the air. A figure slammed into the ground in front of her, spinning a heavy streetlamp with a roar.

"GO!" Chen shouted, fending off the first wave of mutants. "Get Ekko! Get to the rafters! They're too heavy to climb fast—use the height!"

"Going up won't save us, Chen!" Jinx shouted back, frantically reloading. "We'll just be rats in a cage up there!"

"Have you forgotten how we got home last time?" Chen yelled over the sound of metal clashing on armor.

Jinx's eyes widened. She remembered the blue light. The instant travel. She didn't argue again; she kicked her hoverboard into reverse, scooping up Ekko just as Sevika's shimmer-blade was about to open his chest.

Sevika lunged, but a volley of lead from Jinx forced her into a desperate backflip. "Follow me!" Jinx barked at Ekko.

Chen popped his Counter Strike, stunning the warriors in a burst of kinetic energy. He didn't stay to trade blows; he used the one-second window to rocket his hover-sword toward the ceiling, joining the other two on the high steel rafters.

"Sevika! Stop them!" Silco's voice echoed through the foundry, sharp with a sudden, rare note of panic.

The Shimmer Warriors began to scale the support pillars, their metal claws screeching against the steel. Ekko was pacing the narrow beam, his breath coming in ragged hitches. "We're cornered, Chen! What now? We try to jump the gate?"

"Hold onto me," Chen said, his voice calm.

"What? The situation is desperate and you want a—"

Chen didn't wait for Ekko to finish his protest. He grabbed the boy in a firm grip. Jinx understood the assignment immediately, wrapping her arms around Chen from behind.

"Teleport!"

A pillar of brilliant blue light punched through the factory roof. A misty aura swirled around the trio, defying the laws of Zaunite physics.

Down below, Silco's face contorted. He recognized that light. It was the same magic that had snatched Powder away from him at the cannery. "NO!!! It's him! The mage!"

As the Shimmer Warriors reached the rafters, their hands passing through the fading blue glow, the three of them vanished into thin air.

But Chen had one last parting gift. In the final millisecond before the teleport completed, he reached into his bag and pressed the remote detonator for the charges Jinx had spent the last twenty minutes planting.

BOOM!

A chain reaction of violent explosions tore through the foundry. The fire met the vats of concentrated Shimmer, creating a chemical inferno that turned the factory into a purple-tinted sun. Fiery serpents of gas surged through the corridors, consuming everything.

The Shimmer Warriors, trapped on the high rafters, were vaporized instantly. Sevika barely made it out, diving through the main doors just as the roof buckled.

Silco stood outside the burning ruins, trembling with a rage that shook his very bones. He watched his empire turn to ash—again. The memory of the cannery, of Vander, of the pain of drowning... it all came rushing back, fueling a new, singular obsession.

"Vander was a threat because he was a legend," Silco hissed, his eyes fixed on the flames. "The Chem-Barons are gutter trash. But you..."

He turned to the lone survivor of the gate guards—the bald man who had been beaten by a streetlamp and shot at by a madwoman. "Tell me everything. Every detail. Or I'll find a slower way for you to die."

The guard, shaking and covered in soot, recounted the boy with the lamp and the girl with the guns.

"He called himself Jax, didn't he?" Silco growled, his voice a promise of death. "Fine. Jax. I will not rest until your head is on a pike in the center of the Lanes."

Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away in the kingdom of Demacia, a man sitting by a campfire with a lamppost suddenly sneezed.

"?"

Jax rubbed his nose, wondering why he suddenly felt like someone was walking over his grave.
