Chen and Jinx were moving through the shadowed maintenance tunnels of the Zaun. They weren't using their hoverboards; in the high-tension atmosphere of Zaun, a glowing neon trail was basically a "Shoot Me" sign for Silco's enforcers.

Suddenly, a massive, crimson notification flared in the center of Chen's vision, pulsing like a heartbeat.

EMERGENCY MISSION: Protect the Firelight Sanctuary (The Last Drop)Objective: Defend the base from imminent total annihilation. Difficulty: Extremely Difficult (Lethal) Reward: 1 Random Hero Passive, 1 Random Basic Skill.

Chen's blood went cold. He didn't need the system to tell him who was coming. He grabbed Jinx, hoisting her onto his back despite her protests. "Hey! You're the one who said walking was 'good cardio' and 'builds character'!" she grumbled, her arms locked around his neck.

"Change of plans, Powder. The Sanctuary is compromised. We need to move. Now."

"What?" Jinx's tone shifted instantly. The playfulness vanished, replaced by a jagged edge of anxiety. That sanctuary wasn't just a base; it was the only place where the ghosts stayed quiet.

Chen kicked his board into overdrive, the hover-sword humming as it drank through its fuel reserves. Halfway to the massive hollow of the Sanctuary, they spotted a familiar green streak.

"Little Man! Over here!" Jinx shouted, waving frantically.

Ekko pulled a sharp u-turn, his eyes wide with relief. "Powder? You're alive? I heard the Enforcers turned you into swiss cheese..."

Jinx blew a raspberry at him, sticking her tongue out. "Rua! Don't call me Powder! It's Jinx now. And how could I die? I've got the best tank in the game peeling for me, right Chen?" She punctuated the sentence by bobbing Chen's head up and down like a doll.

"Ekko, listen," Chen interrupted, his face grim. "Silco is coming. He's found the tree. He's going to hit The Last Drop with everything he has."

Ekko's face went pale. That sanctuary was his life's work—a home for the homeless. He didn't ask how Chen knew. He just slammed his board into high gear and rocketed toward the hidden entrance.

When they arrived, the Sanctuary was... peaceful.

Children were racing on practice boards, laundry was hanging from the lower branches of the massive central tree, and the smell of cooking vats filled the air. The tree itself had grown into a towering behemoth since Chen had last seen it, its leaves glowing with a soft, bioluminescent hum.

"Everything looks fine, Chen," Ekko said, though his hand was white-knuckled on his rod. "Maybe we're—"

"We're exposed, Ekko. The system—I mean, my sources—don't lie. Silco has the location. We have hours, maybe less."

Ekko didn't argue further. He knew Chen's "hunches" usually ended in explosions. "Gather everyone!" Ekko roared. "If you can lift a hammer or haul a stone, move it! We're building a perimeter!"

The veteran Firelights, the ones Chen had trained in the "Three-Point System," moved immediately. "Political Commissar! Good to see you back in the fight!" they shouted.

But the newcomers—the refugees who had grown comfortable in the peace—were resistant. "Why ruin the day? Silco hasn't found us in years." "Let's just stay hidden; why provoke him?"

Chen stepped onto a raised platform, his voice a low, vibrating thunder.

"Comfort!" he roared. "Comfort is the poison that kills heroes! Do you think this peace was free? It was bought with the blood of people who refused to stop fighting! Don't forget you are in Zaun! Outside those vents, the air is toxic and the Shimmer is turning your brothers into monsters! If you want to keep this home, you earn it tonight. Now, pick up a shovel and stop whining!"

The silence that followed was heavy. The "Political Commissar" had spoken. The settlers moved, galvanized by a mix of fear and renewed purpose.

They worked through the night, a desperate, frantic labor fueled by chem-lanterns. Chen directed the construction of "Western-style" fortifications that the Zaunites didn't quite understand.

"I need rebar-reinforced concrete here for the anti-tank barriers!" Chen barked.

"What's a tank?" a worker asked, wiping sweat from his brow.

"Just... look at the blueprint. Build the big 'X' shapes out of heavy iron. And over there, I want the furnaces modified with bottom-drops for hot oil."

By dawn, the Sanctuary looked like a fortress. Chen stood at the base of the tree, his HUD tracking a swarm of red dots approaching from every sector.

Ding-a-ling! The alarm bells began to scream.

Ekko rocketed into the air on his board. "Enemy attack! Non-combatants to the inner roots! Battle stations!"

A scout blurred in, his board smoking. "It's the Shimmer Warriors! They're at the East Gate! At least thirty of them!"

Another scout banked hard left. "South Gate is blocked! Thirteen more! Northeast has nine! They're everywhere, Ekko! It's a total encirclement!"

Ekko's voice trembled as he looked at Chen. "There must be a hundred of them. Silco emptied the barracks for this. He's not here to capture us; he's here to erase us."

Chen gripped his streetlamp, his eyes fixed on the horizon where the first purple glow of Shimmer was appearing in the dark. A cold, tactical smile touched his lips.

"The night's work wasn't for nothing," Chen said, his Unbreakable Will cooling down to zero. "With these defenses, a whole Panzer division couldn't break through, let alone these drugged-up junkies."

"What's a Panzer?"

"Don't worry about it. Just get behind the wall."
