The mechanical beetle hummed with Hextech energy, its plated legs clicking rhythmically against the stone. To the uninitiated Enforcers, it looked like a nightmare plucked from a Zaunite workshop. Rifles were raised, and fingers twitched on triggers until Chen stepped forward, arms raised.
"Hold your fire! This one's with us. It's the vanguard for taking down Mundo!"
Reluctantly, the guards lowered their weapons. Jayce and Heimerdinger, however, were already circling the construct, their eyes wide with scientific curiosity. While they poked at its brass plating, Camille sat perched on a nearby crate, sipping red tea with the poise of a predator. She didn't need instructions; she was a master of the hunt.
The real challenge was Seraphine.
She was barely ten, with vibrant pink hair and a face that radiated innocence. She looked small, frightened, and utterly out of place in a war zone. Jinx hovered nearby, her eyes darting toward the girl until Chen gave her a stern look.
"Don't scare the child, Jinx."
"Rua! I was just looking!" Jinx pouted, tucking her hands behind her back.
Chen knelt in front of Seraphine. "Hey. Don't be afraid. I'm from the Sump, just like you. I need your help to protect the city. Can you do that?"
Seraphine's eyes were glassy with tears, but she looked at Chen with a strange, penetrating intensity. She could hear the songs of souls—a talent that currently felt like a curse. The cacophony of the city was a constant, painful noise in her mind. But as she listened to Chen, she heard something different: a sincere, grounded rhythm. He wasn't lying.
"I know it's noisy in there," Chen whispered. "All those voices... the souls you hear. I can help you find a way to quiet them. If you help us now, I'll have the Professor and the Future Guardian over there build you a device to suppress the noise. One day, you won't just hear the noise; you'll lead the song."
Seraphine wiped her eyes and nodded slowly. She didn't fully understand the "Inventor" synergy, but she trusted the melody in Chen's heart.
Chen turned to Camille. She was checking the tension on two metallic canisters at her waist.
"3D Maneuver Gear?" Chen blurted out, a flash of recognition from his past life hitting him.
"I call them grappling hooks," Camille replied coolly. "They allow me to own the vertical space. Is the purple brute ready for his 'consultation'?"
"He's hard to kill," Chen warned. "His regeneration is off the charts."
"Then I shall try removing the head," Camille said, her tone as casual as if she were ordering more tea. "Efficiency is the key to progress."
Chen then handed Heimerdinger a pile of Jinx's specialized grenades. "Professor, stay back with Seraphine. If Mundo breaks through our line, use these. Jinx says they're 'extra spicy.'"
"These are mine!" Jinx protested.
"I'll buy you a crate of components later!" Chen shouted over his shoulder as he began to coordinate the Pinduoduo Lineup.
The strategy was set. Heimerdinger and Seraphine provided the backline synergy, guarded by a squad of Enforcers. Jayce, Vi, Camille, and Chen formed the frontline. Jinx and Caitlyn took the flanks.
Chen noticed a glowing shimmer on the ground—the Socialite Spotlight.
"Jinx! Stand right there. It'll make your rockets hit harder."
"Really? Like a stage light?" Jinx hopped onto the spot, feeling the 20% damage bonus surge through her weapons.
The team advanced on the pier. Mundo was hunched over a row of "patients," his bone saw raised. He was lost in his delusion, muttering about "successful amputations."
Suddenly, a note rang out.
It wasn't a scream or a battle cry. It was a beautiful, soaring melody that seemed to resonate through the very air. Behind the line, Seraphine had closed her eyes and begun to sing. She wasn't just making noise; she was projecting the harmony of her soul.
A translucent blue shield rippled over the entire team. Chen felt his fatigue vanish. His feet felt lighter, and his mind felt sharper.
SYNERGY PROC: Harmonious Echo (Seraphine W) Effect: Shielding applied to all allies. Movement Speed increased.
"We've got our own BGM now!" Chen roared, his Turbo Chemtank hissing as he accelerated. "Mundo! Your medical license is officially revoked!"
Chen slammed into Mundo's back with his lamppost, the Duelist's Dance highlighting a vital on the monster's spine. Vi followed with a Vault Breaker, and Jayce's hammer crackled with Hextech lightning.
The battle for the Two Cities had truly begun.
