The man who was trying to kill her lunged for her legs and she went down hard, her hip slamming into the floor with brutal force. Pain radiated up her side but she kept moving, kept fighting. She kicked at his face, her heel catching his jaw with a solid impact that snapped his head to the side.
But he grabbed her ankle and dragged her toward him, his grip iron-tight despite the blood making his hands slick. Mila twisted, her fingers scrabbling for purchase on the smooth floor, and found the leg of the overturned chair.
She swung it up and around, catching him across the side of the head with the wooden edge.
