Chapter 50 - The Hallway

The fluorescent lights were too bright and they hummed overhead with that particular frequency that made Mila's teeth ache.

Of course, the more she clenched her jaw against the pain on the lights, the more it made the base of her skull throb where the concussion still pulsed like a second heartbeat.

Mila kept her eyes forward, her footsteps quiet on the linoleum floor as she made her way down the hallway. The gun was heavy in her hand and with an unfamiliar grip, it caused her additional strain as she carried it. Well, it was either that or the gun itself was heavier than she'd expected, or maybe that was just the adrenaline wearing off and leaving exhaustion in its wake.

There was a lot of possibilities...

And no holster to put it in.

So, she did what she did best when something important annoyed her. She ignored it.
