I couldn't blame her. If someone known for being broke suddenly handed me something worth thousands of dollars, I'd be suspicious too.
"B-But how? Three hundred and fifty thousand yen! Why would you spend that much on me? I can't accept this, I'm sorry!" Raya protested, her face flushing red as she pushed the paper bag back toward me. I gently pushed it back to her with a smile.
"I get why you're worried about where the money came from. Let's just say I'm not the same person you used to know. And this isn't my life savings. Please, take it," I said. Raya's cheeks burned even brighter as she slowly began unboxing the device.
It was a sleek, black cylindrical gadget, about five inches tall and six inches around.
"Thank you… so much," she murmured, testing it out. After a minute of fiddling with its features, her excitement was obvious, but she eventually set it aside and turned her full attention to me.
"Well… what I need your help with is kind of difficult. It's not something just anyone would agree to. And even if you do, I'd like to keep it strictly between us," Raya said softly. I leaned forward instantly, intrigued.
"What is it?"
