Lyra's POV
The trembling lasted only seconds before something soft settled over my exposed skin. A gentle touch landed on my shoulder, steady and reassuring. My eyelids grew impossibly heavy as I surrendered to sleep for what felt like the hundredth time that endless night.
Consciousness returned slowly, accompanied by the steady electronic beeping I'd grown to recognize from too many visits to the pack's medical wing. Every muscle in my body felt different as I shifted carefully in the narrow bed. My joints popped and cracked with movement, but strangely, nothing ached. My eyes fluttered open as I conducted a mental inventory of my limbs.
Both arms remained intact. My legs responded when I flexed them.
I could curl my toes without difficulty. Against all odds, I had survived whatever ordeal had brought me here.
Finally, whispered a voice from somewhere deep in my consciousness. But this time, the tone carried a richness and clarity that hadn't existed before.
