Elena's heart raced as she ran down the busy street, her heels clicking loudly on the pavement. The sun had already climbed high in the sky, but she still couldn't afford to be late.
"Please, not today," she whispered, gripping her bag tightly.
Today was the day she was meeting the new CEO's son for the first time. Everyone at the office had been talking about him for weeks — how handsome he was, how powerful, and how cold he could be.
Elena had tried her best to stay calm, but her thoughts kept repeating the same question:

She stopped for a moment to catch her breath, then looked at the glass building of Aurora Corporation in front of her. The company was huge — the kind that made people dream, but also the kind that made people scared.
Elena took a deep breath and stepped inside.

The office was silent. Everyone seemed frozen, waiting for something to happen.
Elena walked into the meeting room where the staff gathered, and her eyes immediately found him.
Adrian.
He stood by the window, looking outside with his hands in his pockets. His presence was calm, but his eyes were sharp — like a storm hiding behind a beautiful sky.
He was exactly as everyone described him: tall, handsome, and intimidating.
When he finally turned to face the room, the air felt colder.
"Everyone, welcome," he said softly, but his voice carried power. "Today, we have a new assistant."
Elena felt every eye on her.
She swallowed hard and walked forward.
Adrian looked at her for a moment. His gaze was calm, almost unreadable.
Then he said, "Elena, right?"
She nodded.
"Good. Your first task is simple," he continued. "You will organize the files for the board meeting tomorrow."
Elena felt relieved. It's just files, she thought. I can do that.
But as she turned to leave, Adrian spoke again.
"Don't be late."
The words were simple, but the tone made her feel like she was already being judged.
Elena bowed slightly and left the room.

As she walked back to her desk, she felt a strange warmth inside her chest.

Her coworkers whispered quietly behind her back, sharing rumors about Adrian.
"Did you see his eyes?"
"He's dangerous."
"He doesn't care about anyone."
Elena didn't listen. She only focused on her work.

Later that evening, Elena stayed late to finish the files. The office was empty and silent.

She turned around and saw Adrian standing at the door.

"Why are you still here?" he asked.
Elena hesitated. "I'm finishing the work you gave me."
Adrian stared at her for a moment, then said, "You didn't need to stay this late."
Elena felt her cheeks heat up. "I wanted to finish it."
Adrian's eyes softened for a second, like something inside him was trying to break free.
Then he turned away and said, "Leave now."
Elena nodded and began to pack her things.
Before she reached the door, Adrian spoke again.
"Be careful."
Elena stopped. "Careful?"
Adrian looked at her, his voice low and serious.
"People in this company don't like those who are too kind."
He paused, then added quietly, "Especially if they are innocent."
Elena didn't understand why he said that. But she felt the truth in his words.
