John's jaw tightened as he looked at Cameron and said, "I won't keep you any longer, Ms. Anderson."
After Cameron and Rebecca left, John dropped into the seat beside me and started pressing me about where I had been for two months. The questions came one after another, and something restless moved under my skin with each one.
I had no patience for it. I turned to Marcus instead. "Let's get takeaway and go home."
Marcus nodded. But as we made our way out of the restaurant, John stepped into our path. "Scarlet, what is wrong with you? Do you have any idea how much trouble your disappearance caused? Someone even..."
Marcus cut in before I could respond, his voice calm but carrying an edge that didn't invite argument. "Mr. Stovall, if you genuinely care about her, I'd suggest you stop pushing. What she went through is a lot heavier than you're giving it credit for."
