Rooftop. District 2.
Ping.
The phone rang with a notification sound.
Yuuya opened it. A smile appeared on his lips.
[Sender: Aleister]
"I will assign the stabilized Misaka individuals to research institutions allied with Academy City across the globe. The Experiment will officially 'halt' on August 20th. Until then, the distribution continues."
"Heh. Of course I know that."
Yuuya typed a reply, his fingers moving fast.
"I don't need a status report, Chairman. I just want a guarantee. The Sisters dispersed around the world—ensure their safety. They are mine. That is the condition."
Aleister's plan was simple: spread the Sisters to every corner of the planet to create an artificial AIM diffusion field covering the Earth.
Ping.
[Sender: Aleister]
"I accept your request. In return, I expect you to perform your duties as the Director of HARMONY. Do not disappoint me."
"Scheming old man," Yuuya chuckled. "But our goals don't conflict. You want a global network; I want them alive."
He put the phone away.
"Now... time to pick up the laundry."
He walked over to the water tower.
Misaka 9985 was sitting quietly, still handcuffed to the railing where he had left her during the fight.
"Oh. I'll take you back now."
Click.
Yuuya unlocked the cuffs. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"We can go shopping if you want."
"DO, Misaka reports: The experiment has failed," 9985 said dejectedly, looking at the destroyed container yard. "Although the objective was survival, the combat data was not collected. DO, Misaka laments the inefficiency."
"Well, I'll ask Nunotaba to install a 'Feelings' patch for you tomorrow. But right now..."
Yuuya squeezed her shoulder.
"You are being embraced by the Hero who saved you. You should be enjoying it, not complaining about data."
"DO, Misaka asks with hidden disdain: Is Mr. Takahashi planning to perform the same actions on Misaka that he performed on Misaka 9982?"
"That would be great, but let's save the kissing for later."
Yuuya checked the LED display on a nearby building.
21:15.
"It's time for a late-night snack. There are two hours until curfew. Let's go. I'll treat you to a buffet. It's my first date."
"Date?"
9985's ears perked up.
"A date is a social gathering that involves the consumption of high-calorie biomass. Hooray! DO, Misaka cheers monotonously."
Her body swayed slightly. It was lethally cute.
"According to data uploaded by 9982, 'Buffet' implies unlimited intake. DO, Misaka expects the same treatment. Misaka places her hands on her cheeks to imitate 9982's 'Appeal Strategy.'"
She stared at him with blank, puppy-dog eyes.
"The Misaka Network is terrifying," Yuuya laughed, pinching her nose. "One learns, and they all become foodies."
"Let's go!"
Snap.
[Ability: Move Point]
They vanished.
...
Seventh Pharmaceutical Research Center. Underground.
"Why did the surveillance go down?! What happened to the feed?"
"Damn it! It must be that Multi-Skill user! He fried the electronics with an EMP!"
The Project Supervisor slammed his fist on the console. "Go find Accelerator! Find out if the experiment was completed!"
The lab went silent.
"Go... find the Monster?" a researcher swallowed hard.
That monster had killed 10,000 clones. Just thinking about those red eyes made their bladders weak.
"You! Hurry up! Do you want to be fired?"
"I... I..."
Ten minutes later, a trembling researcher found Accelerator in a dark corridor.
"G-Get lost!"
Suzushina Yuriko glared at the man, her red eyes burning with manufactured hate.
"Eek!" The researcher collapsed to the floor in terror.
"Wait... Accelerator... The Experiment..."
"Tch. I'll be on schedule. Now get out of my sight before I reverse your blood flow."
Yuriko walked past him, not even glancing down.
"Damn monster..." the researcher whispered, clutching his chest.
He didn't notice the slight tremble in the "monster's" hands.
...
District 7. Family Buffet Restaurant.
Yuuya sat at a booth, watching the spectacle.
Misaka 9985 had transformed into a vacuum cleaner. Because the clones had artificially accelerated growth rates, their metabolism was incredibly high. They needed massive amounts of calories just to stay alive.
She was stuffing cake into her mouth with both hands. Cream was smeared on her nose.
"Slow down. No one is fighting you for it."
Yuuya rested his chin on his hand, smiling.
The other customers were staring.
"Isn't that a Tokiwadai student? The Ace of Tokiwadai?"
"She's eating like a starving refugee..."
"So unladylike..."
Yuuya ignored them. He scooped up a spoonful of ice cream.
"Try this. Open wide. Ahhh~"
9985 blinked, then leaned forward and took the bite.
To the outside world, it looked like a sickeningly sweet couple showing off.
...
Outside the Restaurant. The Street.
Two girls walked down the sidewalk, surrounded by a gloom that was almost visible.
"They breached the 'Bank'..."
Shirai Kuroko looked like her soul had left her body.
"The Guardian of the City... defeated in thirty seconds. It's a disgrace to Judgment."
"My security system... it was like paper..."
Uiharu Kazari walked with her head down, staring at her shoes. "The intruder was too strong. It wasn't human."
"If I had been faster..." Uiharu sniffled.
Bump.
Uiharu walked right into Kuroko's back.
"Ouch! Shirai-san, why did you stop?"
Uiharu rubbed her forehead and looked up.
She saw Kuroko standing frozen, staring through the glass window of a family restaurant.
Kuroko's mouth was agape. Her eyes were popped wide open. Her skin had turned the color of ash.
She looked like she had seen the end of the world.
"Shirai-san?"
Uiharu followed her gaze.
Inside the brightly lit restaurant, a handsome boy was smiling gently. He held a spoon.
And feeding from that spoon... with a face full of cream and a blush on her cheeks...
Was Misaka Mikoto. (Or so they thought).
"O... O..."
Kuroko's voice trembled. A dark, demonic aura began to rise from her twin tails.
"Onee... sama...?"
