"We can grab lunch later, I promise," I lied smoothly, slipping past the blockade of desks.
I walked down the hall to the second-year wing. I needed to confirm one more thing.
Class 2-B.
I stepped inside. It was chaotic, cliques formed in corners, guys roughhousing, girls chatting. I scanned the room until a girl with glasses and twin braids practically sprinted up to me.
"I'm the class representative," she announced, adjusting her glasses. I noticed a tiny trickle of blood at her nose which she quickly, and discreetly, wiped away. "Are you looking for someone?"
I kept my expression neutral. "Actually, yes. I'm looking for Issei Hyoudou. Do you know where he is?"
The noise in the room died instantly. Everyone turned to look at me. The whispers started up again, but this time, the tone was different. Confusion. Disbelief.
Why is the cool new transfer student looking for the Pervert Prince?
"Is that the new kid everyone's been talking about? What's he doing here?"
"Why does he want to speak to that thing?"
"I didn't think he was a pervert," another girl whispered, eyeing me up and down. "But then again... if he's the one doing it, I don't think I'd mind."
I ignored the whispers, keeping my expression neutral as the class representative led me toward the back of the room. She stopped in front of a desk where a girl sat alone, completely isolated from the rest of the class. She was eating a bento box, headphones in, staring intently at her phone.

My brain stuttered for a fraction of a second. Issei is a girl.
I didn't let the shock show on my face. [Gamer's Mind] clamped down on the surprise, turning it into simple data processing. The protagonist of High School DxD wasn't the Brown Haired Pervert; it was this girl.
"If that will be all," the class rep said, pushing up her glasses, "I shall take my leave."
She hurried away as if being near Isa was contagious. Isa looked up, sensing someone standing over her. When she saw me, her eyes widened, and a faint blush dusted her cheeks.
I decided to rip the band-aid off.
"My name is Shiro," I said, offering a small smile. "What is yours, miss?"
Isa scrambled to stand up, nearly knocking her chair over. She bowed clumsily. "My name is Isabella Hyoudou. But... my friends call me Isa!"
I chuckled softly at her panic. It was endearing, in a way.
"So, Isa."
She twitched at the nickname, her blush darkening to a visible red.
"May I sit with you?"
She blinked, stunned, then nodded slowly.
I grabbed a chair from the desk in front of her, spun it around, and sat down straddling it, resting my arms on the backrest. It was a casual pose, meant to lower the tension.
She was starting to panic again, looking around the room at the other students glaring at us.
"So," I started, drawing her attention back to me. "How has your day been?"
"Oh," she stammered, fiddling with her headphone cord. "It's been... good. A little boring, but good. How was yours?"
Her voice was barely a whisper, but I caught it.
"About the same," I laughed. "I've been pretty bored with my first class. Most of the stuff I've already gone through."
She smiled at that, a genuine, if shy, expression. But then silence fell between us. I needed to address the elephant in the room, my original question.
"You must forgive my rudeness," I said gently. "I was actually looking for an Issei Hyoudou, not an Isabella. I know it may sound pretty weird, but are you related in any way?"
She shook her head, looking down at her desk.
"I'm sorry," she murmured. "I've never heard that name before. Is he a friend of yours?"
"You could say something like that," I lied smoothly. "We're not good friends anymore, but back in the day, we were close. Of course, that was before I moved. I was just wondering if you were cousins or something."
It was a necessary lie. There was no Issei here. This confirmed that the timeline, and the biology, was different.
"I'm sorry," she said again, looking genuinely upset that she couldn't help.
"Don't be," I waved it off. "It's not your fault. Anyway, if you don't mind me asking... why are you sitting all alone?"
I knew the answer. Pervert Queen. But I needed to see how she would react. Would she open up?
She didn't look at me. She just stared at the grain of the wood on her desk, her shoulders hunched.
Okay. Too soon.
"You know," I said softly, leaning forward slightly. "You don't have to answer that if you don't think I deserve to know. You know that, right?"
She looked up, surprised.
"It's true we have only recently met, and I don't know a lot about you," I continued, standing up from the chair. "So, when you're ready, you can tell me."
I turned as if to walk away and grab some lunch, but I stopped after one step and looked back over my shoulder.
"You're the first friend I've made here," I said. "Mind if I give you my phone number?"
She jumped to her feet, her face flushing a deep crimson. "Yes! Please..."
I smiled, pulled a piece of paper from my pocket, and jotted down the digits. I handed it to her, and she took it like it was a sacred artifact.
"Well, I'll see you then."
I walked out of the room. Behind me, Class 2-B erupted into chaos. The roar of gossip was deafening, but I just kept walking, a small smirk playing on my lips.
I was heading back to my own classroom when I passed a student walking in the opposite direction. Blonde hair, perfect features, carrying herself with an elegance that screamed nobility.
