I stood there, the cool morning air of the neutral territories biting at my skin, watching Elowen Goldbane try to play it cool while looking like she was held together by nothing but sheer will and oversized cotton.
"I could ask you the same thing," she countered, her voice sounding a bit squeaky through the surgical mask. "What is a 'rogue' doing at a high-level Fairy Court? Do they let just any criminal in here if they wear a nice suit?"
"She's got a mouth on her. Bite back, Jarek. Show her who the criminal is." Liric purred in my head, his tail practically wagging against my ribs
I ignored him, slowly adjusting my cufflinks. "I'm here on a business meeting, love. Some of us actually work for a living."
I gestured lazily toward Hera, who was currently looking at Elowen like she was a stain that wouldn't come out of the wash. "This is Hera. My P.A. and best friend. Hera, this is Elowen Goldbane. The heiress I told you about."
