Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 : Spring of the DEAD lV

"This system… is absolutely incredible…"

Haru muttered, feeling in complete control of his new power and the supernatural senses he had gained after his transformation into a Ghoul. Every movement and every sound became clear before him; every scent was incredibly detailed, as if he was seeing the world in a completely different way.

While he was enjoying his mastery and acclimation to his senses, his acute senses suddenly picked up a strange sound and smell coming from the school's main gate.

"What's happening…?"

He murmured, his eyes widening in shock. He looked at the city stretching below the hill where the school was located and saw tongues of flame rising from several places. Thanks to his superhuman vision, he could see walking corpses attacking innocent people—"Zombies…?"

This realization stunned him, but he soon directed his gaze towards the main gate. There, a man in a sharp suit was standing, having crashed into the gate. Teachers seemed to be rushing quickly towards the site to understand what was happening.

"Zombie…"

Haru murmured again, focusing on the horrifying details. The gray skin, protruding veins, and the deep wound in the man's back from which entrails were spilling—all confirmed he was no longer human. It was impossible for any human to move in such a state of injury, yet the man was moving terrifyingly fast, as if death itself had no effect on him.

"It's not just that man…"

With his enhanced senses, Haru detected the presence of similar entities at the nearby gates. What worried him more was his feeling that similar things existed inside the academy building itself, as if danger had already infiltrated the heart of the place.

Boom!

Before his mind could fully grasp what was happening, his body moved automatically. He had to find Sora and protect her first. The danger was intense, fast, and unexpected. Every cell in his body responded instantly, and his new Ghoul speed and skills allowed him to move without hesitation, ready to face any approaching threat.

Haru was like a silver storm, moving so fast that each step he took left the ground cracking, with imprints of his shoes on the surfaces he crossed, though he paid no attention to it. He dashed non-stop towards Sora's classroom, his entire focus set on reaching and protecting her from the imminent danger.

Even Eve's notification appearing before him didn't catch his attention; however, his mind managed to catch her voice inside his head as she explained the details of the quest, like a whisper guiding him through the chaos and crowds around him.

[Ding! You have received a quest]

[Quest: Killing]

[Objective: Kill 1,000 Zombies]

[Reward: 1x Silver Upgrading Ticket, 1x Random Item Rank D&C]

[Note: This quest has no time limit or number of times, as the host can execute it at any time and always.]

Haru ignored Eve's warnings; Sora's safety was his absolute priority, and he had no time to care about the quest at that moment.

The first-year classes were located on the first floor, and the school building consisted of four floors. Taking the normal route would have taken too long.

Haru suddenly stopped in the middle of the corridor, glanced down quickly, then opened a fourth-floor window without hesitation. With his new Ghoul strength, jumping from this height wouldn't affect him in any way. He launched himself into the void with complete confidence, as if gravity no longer bound him, heading at an astonishing speed towards the first-year floor.

But the jump would have created a tremendous noise, attracting unwanted attention. So, instead of jumping, Haru began scaling the wall in a near-vertical climb, using his superhuman strength and speed. His movement was smooth and breathtaking, as if gravity meant nothing to him, rapidly approaching the floor where the first-year classes were, ready to intervene before any threat could get close to Sora.

Swish!

Haru soon reached the ground and didn't hesitate for a moment, opening a first-floor corridor window before jumping inside without any delay.

He wasn't sure if it was just a coincidence or a result of his sharp Ghoul instincts, but as soon as he entered the building, he found himself directly in front of Sora's classroom. At the same time, he could hear the elderly Japanese teacher explaining the lesson to the students, adding a touch of reality amidst the rising chaos around him.

But this wasn't important to Haru, who ignored everything around him and pushed the sliding door with astonishing force, causing panic among the elderly teacher and the students inside.

"Haruka-kun! What is the meaning of this?!"

The stunned teacher shouted in anger and fear, clutching his chest as if about to have a heart attack from the fright.

But Haru didn't care about the old man's words. His gentle, polite demeanor, which everyone knew, had completely vanished, replaced by the sharpness of instinct as he began scanning the students with his eyes, searching for his sole target.

And quickly, he noticed a **small, beautiful, and delicate face, long silver hair flowing over her shoulders, and gray eyes filled with shock… It was Sora.

"Sora! We're leaving, now!"

He shouted without any regard for anyone else, advancing towards her at an incredible speed, grabbing her bag with one hand and firmly taking her other hand.

"Wait… Haru! What's happening?!"

Sora stammered anxiously, affected by his strange state. He was clearly in a hysterical condition, filled with worry and fear about something she didn't yet understand.

"There's no time to explain. We're getting out of here first," he said with a rare sternness in his usually gentle voice.

But Sora wasn't the quiet type who listens calmly. She wanted to scream and understand what was happening, but the answer came before she could ask, through the school's emergency announcement:

Upon hearing the announcement, Sora's pupils contracted in extreme shock, and her eyes filled with fear and confusion. She hadn't expected such horror to happen inside the school, and her delicate features, which harmonized with her fragile outward appearance, reflected how vulnerable she was in the face of the sudden situation.

"It's okay… I'll protect you."

Feeling Sora tremble, Haru gently squeezed her hand and carefully pulled her towards him. Then he lifted her in a princess carry, aware that her weak physical condition might cause her to stumble if she tried to run with him through the chaos.

With this method, they could move faster through the commotion without causing additional noise that might attract nearby zombies. Every step Haru took was cautious, while Sora felt a little comfort and reassurance despite the terror of the situation surrounding them.
