Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 5

At Hayato's order, some young men contributed their belts, and they secured Yūko to a chair.

Everyone felt terrible as they looked at the unconscious young woman who was tightly bound.

If the zombies broke down the door again, would they also end up like this?

"What should we do next?" Hayato muttered faintly. Only Tsubasa, who was beside him, could hear his voice.

"I need to go look for resources." Tsubasa, who was ignoring the others, said to the worried Hayato, "To survive for thirty days, we definitely need sufficient food and clean water, and we also need to use the restroom, so we must go out."

As he spoke, Tsubasa turned to look through the gap in the sealed window beside him.

This classroom was on the third floor; below was an incredibly spacious sports field. At this moment, a few scattered zombies were wandering listlessly on the track field.

Judging by the situation, the outbreak must not have occurred on a school day. Otherwise, the number of zombies would definitely not be so low.

"Looking for resources? Isn't that too risky..." Hayato couldn't help but try to dissuade Tsubasa.

After the recent danger, Hayato instinctively didn't want to venture outside.

But upon reflection, Tsubasa was no ordinary student, and given his abilities, he might truly be able to scavenge resources.

"It's getting dark; we must hurry and act," Tsubasa pointed out.

Through Hayato's expression, Tsubasa had discerned the blond young man's indecision.

"..." Hayato, who heard Tsubasa's words, didn't know what to say.

Although Hayato had the same idea as Tsubasa, he knew that the people in the classroom did not possess the latter's courage. In his opinion, the recent encounter had already terrified everyone, and at this moment, everyone just wanted to stay safely here and avoid confronting the endless stream of zombies outside.

Tsubasa couldn't be bothered to waste words, so he put on his gear and prepared to leave.

But at this moment...

"Wait a moment."

A cool, clear female voice suddenly sounded behind him.

"Hmm?" Tsubasa turned his head and was surprised to find that the aloof Yukino had walked up to him.

"I would like to be your teammate. May I?"

"You should have heard my recruitment conditions earlier. Are you saying you can accept those three conditions?" Frowning slightly, Tsubasa asked back.

"I can accept them." Yukino spoke as her clear blue eyes, free of any impurity, gazed steadily at him: "I am willing to obey your commands unconditionally, and you may abandon me at any time if danger arises. When scavenging resources, you have priority in selection."

"Yukino!" Hearing the young woman agree to Tsubasa's harsh conditions, Hayato quickly stepped forward to dissuade her: "Those conditions are too demanding. Why don't we wait until everyone has calmed down, and then go out together?"

"Wake up." Yukino glanced coldly at Hayato and stated clearly, word by word: "Night is approaching; it will only get more dangerous!"

Regarding the indecisive Hayato, Yukino had no comment. But this was no longer a peaceful society; moving even one step slowly would only increase the risk.

Judging by the recent incident, Yukino did not believe that the people present could survive the night on campus. Rather than staying in the classroom with these people, it was better to follow Tsubasa, who was skilled and courageous, to take a risk. If they could find a way to leave the campus, that would be even better.

"But..." Hayato still wanted to persuade Yukino.

Hayato had grown up with Yukino and her older sister, Haruno, since childhood. For him, who secretly liked Haruno, if Yukino were to come to harm in this instance dungeon, when they returned to reality, Haruno would surely be devastated, and he would feel immense guilt and self-reproach.

"You are still the same as before..." Yukino frowned slightly and expressionlessly avoided the young man who tried to reach out and grab her.

She held absolutely no good feelings for Hayato. She simply felt that the young man in front of her was, as always, unable to grasp the situation.

Hayato fell silent upon hearing her words. Clearly, he was recalling the events that happened during their childhood.

In elementary school, Hayato had tried to help the isolated Yukino, but it only made the situation worse. This incident had become a thorn in both their hearts.

"Remember the rules, and bring your gear," Tsubasa reminded Yukino. He had no time to spare for their personal grudges and affections.

After reminding Yukino, Tsubasa prepared to leave first.

Yukino watched Tsubasa leave, and her expression tightened. She quickly grabbed her gear she had carefully selected and hurried to follow him.

Outside the classroom, Tsubasa looked with some surprise at the weapon in the young woman's hand.

"A bow and arrow? A good choice."

It was a typical American hunting recurve bow, along with a quiver full of arrows.

Judging by its appearance, this American hunting recurve bow was similar to the one used by the heroine in The Hunger Games.

This type of bow usually weighs around 35 pounds, combining the shape of a traditional bow with modern bow-making technology. Its ergonomic design makes it very suitable for beginners or archers with less strength; it was very friendly to young women with less strength than men, making it easy to draw the bow.

Yukino's choice of this bow was clearly the result of careful consideration. Compared to unfamiliar firearms, a bow and arrow, as a cold weapon, was significantly more convenient when fighting zombies. Not only was it a ranged weapon, but drawing the bow was silent, making it highly suitable in this zombie apocalypse.

The zombies in Left 4 Dead are extremely sensitive to sound and easily attracted by light sources. Even though Tsubasa had equipped his Beretta M9 with a silencer, he did not want to fire extensively and draw the attention of the zombies.

Anyone who has fired a gun knows that a silencer does not silence the sound completely; it merely lowers it.

Using cold weapons for silent killing is the best strategy in this zombie apocalypse.

Tsubasa drew his Kukri, took a deep breath, and deliberately walked slowly along the corridor.

Yukino followed closely behind him, her expression equally tense. Her small hands gripped the recurve bow tightly, ready to provide support at any moment.

In the hallway, besides the zombies that had tried to enter earlier, several scattered zombies were also wandering at one end.

The two, acting in tacit understanding, hid behind a discarded classroom desk.

Tsubasa gave Yukino a look. He then pulled out the chalk he had scavenged from the classroom and gently tossed it near a lone zombie in the far corner.

The chalk landed on the tile with a soft 'clack.' The crisp sound was particularly jarring in the dead silence of the corridor.

In the corner, the zombie suddenly turned its head. A low, gurgling "grrr" squeezed out of its rotten throat, and it stumbled towards the source of the sound.
