The pages of the textbook blurred in front of me. I'd been looking at the same page for twenty minutes, the words unintelligible.
I was thinking of Daniel.

"You okay?" Jayce glanced up from his laptop on the other side of my dorm room desk. "You've been just looking at that page for a while now."
"Just tired." I forced a smile. "I'm going to die from this exam."
"You need a break." He shut his laptop, came around to my side of the desk. "You've been reading for six hours now."
"I can't afford to fail. Not when I had already been out of class due to..." I trailed off. Because of getting shot, because of Daniel.
