APARTMENT UPGRADE
I had been living in my studio apt. for three years. My little corner of the city was perfect for the lonely woman who desired to be by herself. The view over the city was beautiful – I could see the skyline from my balcony. A walk around the neighborhood was enjoyable – there were lots of trees and it was generally a quiet place full of people who kept to themselves. It was exactly what I needed to help me adjust to single life and start to discover who I was outside of a relationship.
It was late December when I realized that, actually, I didn't really want to be alone anymore. I didn't need to use my tiny studio as a defense mechanism. I had come to terms with myself and my place in the world. I finally understood who I was and what I needed from life. What I needed now was an upgrade because the person that I used to be was gone.
I started my search.
On a Saturday afternoon in mid December, I took a walk through Capitol Hill.
