Chapter 2
*You Got My Attention.*
Joshua used the moment to approach Alex, who was still mesmerized by Lucas's. Joshua cleared his throat loudly, snapping Alex out of his trance. Realizing how distracted he had been.
I feel so ashamed of myself, why am I in the arms of a dude? I am an alpha for petite sake…I look like Cinderella being rescued by her prince, this is so humiliating.I just need to leave his grip, thank him and join Clara and the others. Lucas thought to himself.
"Thank you," Lucas let it out in an awkward tone before excusing himself to join his friends, who wore teasing, "aww" expressions.
Alex's gaze lingered on Lucas as he walked away, his eyes filled with admiration. He's beautiful, Alex thought, the words slipping out softly.
"I thought you said you were leaving?" Joshua teased, earning a deadly glare from Alex.
"Jeez, just kidding! That's Lucas, the junior you're paired with," Joshua added.
"Seriously?" Alex's eyes widened.
"Would I joke about that?"
"You didn't think to tell me sooner? I'm going to talk to my partner now—see you later." Alex seized the opportunity to approach Lucas, who was laughing with his friends.
Elijah, standing beside Joshua, watched the scene unfold with a puzzled expression. "Didn't Alex say he doesn't like getting close to juniors? And wasn't he heading home?"
Joshua chuckled, patting Elijah's shoulder. "Give him a break. Lucas is attractive—enough to make anyone reconsider their plans."
"Guys, stop laughing!" Lucas groaned, his face red as his friends teased him about the scene earlier. He was still mad about Alex, that cocky jerk who had caught him when he tripped—and made him feel like an idiot.
"Alright, alright, we will stop," Donald said, chuckling. Then his eyes widened. "Wait, is that him coming over? Looks like someone's got a crush." He grinned at Lucas.
Clara's face lit up. "Nah, he's totally coming for me," she said, smoothing her dress and tossing her hair. She'd had a thing for Alex forever and was dying to get him to notice her, but because he was her senior, it was damn hard to make it possible but tonight, by chance, she is going to jump on it. "How do I look, Donald?"
"Gorgeous, as always," Donald said, giving her a thumbs-up.
Lucas's mood changed, Clara, his crush was practically crushing on Alex. "What about your partner you got paired with?" he asked, hoping to distract her. "You can't keep whoever the person is, waiting."
"That can wait," Clara said with a shrug.
"What about me?" Lucas mumbled, his voice small, his eyes sad.
Donald patted his shoulder. "You've got a rival, man. Are you sure you can win Clara over?"
"She's not his," Lucas muttered. "I will make sure of it. I just need to ditch this stupid outfit first." His dress already made him look like embarrassment itself, and Alex being around made it worse.
Clara walked toward Alex, hips swaying. "Hi," she said, her voice sweet and flirty. "I'm Clara. I heard you picked me as your partner tonight." Her cheeks turned pink, her smile bold.
Alex stepped closer, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Clara's heart raced as his lips brushed near her ear. "I know my partner," he whispered, voice low and teasing. "And you're not my type, sweetheart." He pulled back with a cheeky grin, leaving Clara stunned, her smile shaky.
Lucas, watching from a distance, thought Alex was about to kiss her. Jealousy burned in his chest, and his hands balled into fists. He grabbed Donald's drink, chugged it, and asked for another. "That jerk," he cussed.
He didn't notice Alex sneak up behind him. With a quick glance, Alex shooed Donald away, and Donald left without a word.
"He thinks he's so hot," Lucas scoffed, still fuming. "I don't care how cute he is. He's not getting his way."
Alex smirked, leaning in so close Lucas could feel his warmth. "Oh yeah? What makes you think I won't get my way?" His voice was deep and flirty, sending a shiver through Lucas.
Lucas spun around, heart pounding, and found himself trapped by Alex's intense stare. Those brown eyes roamed over him, bold and teasing. "You were saying?" Alex said, stepping even closer, his breath hot against Lucas's skin, their nose about to kiss each other.
Lucas's mind went blank, his cheeks burning. Alex's hand slid to his waist, firm and confident. "Let me guess," Alex teased, his voice husky. "You knew I was your partner tonight. That's why you wore this… to get my attention."
Lucas snapped out of it, anger flaring. He slapped Alex's cheek hard. "You creep!" he yelled, face red.
Alex didn't back off. He licked his lips, a slow, sexy smirk forming as he touched his cheek. "Wow, that's hot," he said, stepping closer. "Now you've really got my attention."
"You're insane!" Lucas shoved him away, heart racing as he stormed out of the hall.
Alex watched him go, grinning to himself. I like him,
he thought.
