The next morning, Iris opened the People section again.
Yesterday had given her a new way of looking at the residents of Velaris.
Today, she wanted to understand them better.
She sat quietly for a while, scrolling through the list of names.
There were eighty-seven people within the territory, though not all of them had chosen to become residents. Some were still staying in Velaris without committing to residency, while the actual residents were divided between permanent and temporary residency.
Iris understood why.
The apocalypse had made people cautious.
Even in a place as safe as Velaris, committing valuable resources to a permanent home was not something everyone would do immediately. Some people would need time to decide whether they could trust this place enough to call it home.
She did not blame them.
If anything, she preferred that people make that decision for themselves.
