Zoroark's claws carved a blood-red arc through the air.
A terrifying explosion tore through the forest.
BOOOOM—!!!
The four Ninjask dropped from the sky like flies sprayed with insecticide, crashing helplessly into the ground. Even the two Scizor were blasted backward several meters, forced to one knee as they skidded across the earth.
Night Daze!
Zoroark's signature move.
Among all Pokémon, only Zoroark itself—and the Alolan legendary Lunala, the embodiment of moonlight—could wield this terrifying technique.
With just one strike, six opponents were crippled—more than half wiped out in an instant!
Zoroark planted both claws into the ground, its chest heaving violently.
Clearly, unleashing such power came at an immense cost. After that explosive outburst, its body had reached the brink—like a dying flame flickering in the wind.
…
"Zoroark!"
Whitney clenched her Poké Ball and stepped forward, ready to rush out and help—
But in the next instant, a pillar of white light flashed before her eyes.
A slender, familiar figure appeared out of nowhere.
Thump.
She crashed straight into his chest.
"Ow—!" Whitney gasped softly, losing her balance and tipping backward.
An arm wrapped around her slender waist, pulling her firmly back into warm, steady arms.
"Careful," a boy's voice said, tinged with reproach.
"Eh…?"
Whitney finally snapped out of it.
Her pink eyes widened in disbelief and joy.
"P–Peter?! You—what are you doing here?!"
Peter didn't answer.
He simply stared at her, lifted her fair face with both hands—and without warning, sealed her lips with his.
"Mm…!"
Whitney let out a soft whimper, eyes fluttering shut. Almost instinctively, her arms looped around his neck as she completely melted into the sudden kiss.
Time seemed to stop.
Only when her entire face—and even her neck—was dyed crimson did Peter finally pull back.
Pop.
"Haah… w-why would you just—just kiss me the moment we meet…?" Whitney panted, her chest rising and falling dramatically as she shyly kicked the ground.
The response she got was—
Smack.
"Ow—! That hurts! Why did you hit my butt?!" Whitney yelped, clutching herself and pouting so hard she could've hung an oil bottle from her lips.
"Do you know what you did wrong?" Peter asked, pulling her into a tight embrace.
His voice carried panic, relief—and lingering fear.
Seeing his expression, Whitney finally lowered her head, counting on her fingers.
"…I just… wanted to give you a surprise…" she muttered.
"Look~"
She gently lifted the small Pokémon still sleeping nearby.
Zorua ♀ Lv.19 (Beginner)
Status: Severely injured. A dense Ghost-type toxin has been injected into its body. If not removed in time, the Pokémon will die.
…
"Zorua?" Peter froze. "It's hurt?"
He instinctively took the little fox into his arms. The soft fur felt unbelievably smooth against his palm.
Just then—
Zorua's eyes fluttered open.
Pale blue pupils trembled weakly as the flame-like red tuft atop its head quivered. Bit by bit, life returned to its gaze.
"Zorua~…"
The little fox let out a soft cry, its eyes meeting Peter's.
"Are you okay, little one…?" Peter murmured, staring at the wound on its abdomen with unconcealed pity.
"Zorua…"
Zorua drooped its eyelids again, clearly still in terrible condition.
Peter took out an exquisitely made Pokéblock and offered it gently.
"Try this. It's really tasty."
Zorua sniffed it lightly. The faint, fragrant aroma instantly stirred its appetite.
It swallowed the Pokéblock in one bite.
"Zorua~"
(Mmm… yummy~)
"Boom—!"
Peter was just about to speak again when a violent impact shook the area outside.
Shockwaves rippled outward, ripping the leafy curtain off the tree hollow and exposing everything inside.
At that moment, Peter and Whitney came face-to-face with the two men outside.
Zoroark lay collapsed on the ground, blood trickling from the corner of its mouth.
Hovering before it were a Mismagius and a Banette, while two Scizor stood guard on either side.
"Zoroark! Are you okay?!" Whitney cried, rushing over and ordering her Pokémon to treat its injuries.
Zorua staggered over as well, licking its mother's wounds with weak affection.
Peter silently stepped forward, positioning himself between Whitney, the two Pokémon, and their enemies.
Without a sound, several Poké Balls rolled from his hand and scattered across the ground.
…
He recognized them instantly.
The man in white was Kodai—the villain from the movie timeline.
The man beside him was his bodyguard, Goone.
Kodai raised an eyebrow when he noticed Peter and Whitney.
"You two, get over here," he said calmly.
"That Pokémon beside you is the evil Zoroark. Distance yourselves immediately."
"Hrrk…"
Zoroark shot him a sideways glare, snorting hot air through its nostrils. If not for its condition, it would've torn Kodai in half on the spot.
Peter's eyes flicked over the battlefield.
Zoroark Lv.60 (Near–Elite Four)
Mismagius Lv.54 (Mid-Gym)
Banette Lv.51 (Low-Gym)
Scizor Lv.55 (Mid-Gym)
Peter's heart sank.
The only one on their side who could possibly stand against that lineup was Whitney's inherited Miltank. But even with Ghost immunity, dealing with Scizor's Steel typing would be extremely difficult…
His eyes narrowed.
Behind his back, Peter subtly gestured to Whitney while retreating half a step, nudging several Poké Balls toward her with his foot.
Then he spoke calmly:
"Mr. Kodai, with the situation as it is, not even a three-year-old would believe what you just said."
"You know me?" Kodai finally looked at Peter seriously.
But the moment he truly saw Peter's face—
He froze.
A faint yellow glow flared within Kodai's pupils.
His expression twisted violently.
"Ugh—!"
Veins bulged on both sides of his head as unbearable pain surged through him.
If one looked closely, scenes that hadn't yet occurred flickered rapidly within his eyes.
"Boss!" Goone hurried forward to support him.
"I'm… fine…" Kodai gasped, wiping cold sweat from his brow.
In the future he had just seen—
He was defeated by these two.
"…So you're the obstacles," Kodai muttered darkly.
"In that case… I'll just have to send you to hell!"
"Mismagius—Shadow Ball!"
"Dolliv, block it! Then use Leech Seed!"
Peter hurled a Poké Ball.
The Shadow Ball struck Dolliv and dispersed into harmless smoke.
Normal-type immunity to Ghost attacks.
Meanwhile, Leech Seed landed cleanly, thorny vines binding Mismagius.
"Tsk… looks like you haven't even memorized the type chart, old man," Peter mocked.
But his eyes were sharp.
He was testing something.
In the next instant—
Banette suddenly appeared behind Dolliv, spewing a foul, reeking stream of trash-like energy straight into its back!
"Liv—no!!"
Dolliv cried out and collapsed to its knees on the spot!
Gunk Shot—a Poison-type physical move with terrifying power.
With a twenty-level gap, it was absolutely lethal to a Grass-type Pokémon like Dolliv.
"Dolliv!" Peter rushed forward, catching it—
But it was already unable to continue battling.
In that instant, realization struck him.
Whenever Kodai activated the power of the time ripple, he suffered intense headaches.
Meaning—
He had already seen what Peter would do next.
And countered it in advance.
"You're impressive, kid," Kodai said, a confident smile curling his lips.
"Truly."
Peter's expression turned cold.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh? Then how about this?" Kodai sneered.
"Mismagius—left-side bushes. Psychic!"
A massive beam of psychic energy erupted—
BOOM!
"Milo!!"
Lopunny was blasted out of the bushes, its body tumbling across the ground. Deep gashes covered the right side of its body.
The injuries weren't fatal—
But it was completely immobilized.
The strike had been too sudden. It hadn't been able to dodge in time.
Peter's face darkened further.
He had already passed the remaining Poké Balls to Whitney, shielding her movements with his body.
With Indeedee's psychic coordination, they'd quietly synchronized their thoughts, setting an ambush—
Lopunny had been waiting in the grass, stacking boosts, ready to strike decisively.
But against someone who could see the future—
All of that was meaningless.
"Right-side tree—Dark Pulse!"
Peter's pupils shrank.
"Indeedee—run!!"
BOOM—!
"Ai—!"
Indeedee cried out as it fell from the tree, knocked unconscious on the spot.
…
The forest fell deathly silent.
Against foresight itself—
Even the most careful plans were being shattered one by one.
