Chapter 5 - The Wedding Bell Blues

The next morning was a repeat of the first, but with a new weight on my shoulders. I sat through my BBA lectures, but my mind kept drifting to the mahogany desk and the sharp gaze of my Manager. I was living two lives now.

By the time I reached the office for my second day, the "new girl" excitement had worn off, replaced by a quiet determination. I sat at my desk and started my tasks before he even had to ask.

However, a routine only lasts so long before something unexpected happens. In every love story, there is a "breaking point" where the professional routine turns into something personal.

The office was buzzing with a different kind of energy that morning. It wasn't the usual sound of typing and phone calls; it was the sound of hushed whispers and a floral card being passed around.

I sat at my desk, opening my laptop, when I felt a shadow over my workstation. It was the Advisor. He wasn't wearing his usual playful smirk; instead, he looked at me with a bit of sympathy.

"Big news today," he murmured, leaning against the partition of my desk.

"What is it?" I asked, my heart doing a strange little flutter. "Is there a new project?"

"Not exactly," the Advisor said, nodding toward the Manager's closed door. "The Boss is leaving. He's taking a long leave starting tomorrow. He's getting married."

The words felt like a sudden splash of cold water. I looked at the closed wooden door. Married? I realized then how little I actually knew about him. To me, he was the intimidating, sharp-eyed man who challenged me to be better. To someone else, he was a fiancé.

"Oh," was all I could manage to say. "I didn't know."

"Nobody did until the invitations went out to the senior staff," the Advisor shrugged. "The office is going to be quiet without him breathing down everyone's neck. It'll just be us for a while."

I tried to focus on my BBA notes, but the ink seemed to blur. I had worked so hard to impress him, to show him I could "manage everything." And now, just as I was starting to find my rhythm, he was stepping out of my world and into a new life.
