The match was clearly tilting in Manchester City's favor.
Anyone watching closely could see that from the opening minutes, City's diamond midfield had been shifting fluidly through the center and gradually spreading its influence. Combined with a high defensive line designed to catch opponents offside, they had taken full control of the tempo.
Their centrally constructed defensive system made things extremely uncomfortable for Liverpool.
This was the first time this season that Leo Lin had felt such intense pressure.
Not physical pressure, but mental.
Every time he received the ball, two players immediately closed him down. And even when he managed to wriggle free and look up, all his teammates were locked inside Manchester City's diamond midfield and high-pressing structure.
There were no passing lanes. Blindly dribbling forward led nowhere. Liverpool felt completely suffocated by City's three-center-back system.
A sense of darkness loomed over the pitch.
21st minute!
"Arnold plays a direct ball down the flank! Kyle Walker moves across, muscles Salah aside, and wins it back!"
"He drives forward along the wing and finds David Silva. Lovely combination!"
"David Silva turns with the ball, facing Arnold one-on-one, exquisite close control!"
"The Spanish magician used to play out wide. He may not be quick, but his technique is exceptional."
David Silva steadily pressed forward with the ball. Henderson shifted across to help, while Wijnaldum dropped back to cover the edge of the box.
Leo Lin had been observing everything.
Agüero was lurking centrally in the box, while Jesus at the far post, originally a striker now playing on the right, made far more aggressive runs than a typical winger.
David Silva cut inside to create space. Without even looking up, he whipped a curling ball toward the far post. Clearly something they had rehearsed.
Jesus outmuscled Robertson to reach it and nodded it back across goal to Agüero!
The Argentine striker leapt, ready to strike.
But Leo Lin, tracking back, arrived just in time and cut it out with a perfectly timed defensive header!
The ball dropped to the edge of the box, where Wijnaldum brought it under control and cleared the danger.
The moment he settled the ball, Wijnaldum immediately looked to launch a counterattack. That's Liverpool's trademark.
But as he forced the ball toward the left, Bernardo Silva had already locked down Mané.
Laporte provided cover behind, while Otamendi stepped up through the middle, forcing Firmino to drop back near the halfway line or risk being caught offside.
Fernandinho's positioning was flawless, cutting off both the passing lane to Firmino and Leo Lin's forward run.
Liverpool's counterattack routes were completely shut down.
On the touchline, Guardiola and Maresca slapped their thighs in satisfaction. This was exactly the defensive setup they had designed.
"Over 20 minutes played, Manchester City have 61% possession and four key interceptions."
"Their midfield defensive success rate is extremely high. Before the match, many questioned whether this formation could withstand Liverpool's attack, but Guardiola's experiment has clearly worked. The diamond midfield combined with high pressing has been outstanding."
In the Sky Sports commentary booth, Manchester City legend Richards was praising the performance, seated beside a true giant of the game.
The Samba dancer. The King of Football. One of the most creative legends in history. Pelé.
A name impossible to ignore in football history.
His greatness wasn't just about winning three World Cups, but about the creativity he brought to the game.
Many techniques seen in modern football were first introduced by Pelé. Moves like stepovers, cutbacks, flicks, and aerial body feints all trace back to him.
His creativity drove the evolution of football in his era.
At this moment, Pelé watched the match intently.
He had accepted Sky Sports' invitation partly because of the generous fee, and partly because he was curious about Leo Lin, who had been making waves across world football.
He wanted to see just how good this young player really was.
"From what I've seen so far, Liverpool aren't at their best. Especially Lin in midfield. He hasn't stood out much yet. Mostly simple passes to keep the tempo. He looks like he's been locked down by Manchester City's system."
Pelé went straight to the point.
He understood Liverpool's problem. Their midfield engine, the core of their dynamic triangle, Leo Lin, had yet to find a breakthrough. On the sidelines, Klopp was already thinking of a solution.
He and Krawietz had differing views on City's diamond midfield.
As they discussed it intensely, Leo Lin took advantage of a foul from Fernandinho to come over and speak with Klopp.
He spoke quickly, but every word was clear. It was obvious he had been thinking this through for a while.
"Boss, the diamond midfield covers both the wings and the center, and their high press is stopping Firmino from pushing forward."
"But we can use overlapping movement. With Firmino providing cover, the wingers can make diagonal runs from the half-spaces, cutting in alongside him."
"These diagonal runs take longer than straight runs, which increases our chances of beating the offside trap and also gives me more time to deliver the pass."
It sounded simple, but Klopp's eyes lit up. He immediately understood.
Although City were using three center backs, under Fernandinho's coordination, the defensive line always stepped forward together, catching Liverpool's front three offside. That was their vertical pressure.
But if Mané and Salah started from wide positions and ran diagonally at a 45-degree angle, it would offset that vertical push.
Klopp nodded immediately.
Leo Lin jogged back onto the pitch.
For some reason, even though Guardiola's modern tactical system made things extremely difficult, Leo Lin felt something different.
It was as if his thinking had suddenly expanded.
Or perhaps under this pressure, his anticipation and football intelligence were being forced to evolve, growing rapidly through adversity.
After 25 minutes of observation, he had finally found the solution.
Now it was time to fight back.
29th minute!
Manchester City worked the ball down the flank. Bernardo Silva carried it forward, his rhythm steady.
Robertson held his ground, wary of committing.
Bernardo Silva advanced step by step, then stopped the ball on the right, looking to combine with De Bruyne in a quick one-two.
But Leo Lin read it perfectly again, stepping in to intercept before the pass reached its target, then cutting inside and turning in one motion!
He looked up.
Firmino was still tightly marked by Otamendi, with Walker and Laporte positioned on either side.
Leo Lin raised his right hand slightly and gave a signal.
Salah exploded into motion.
As expected, Manchester City's defensive line stepped up together again, trying to spring the offside trap.
But this time, Salah didn't rush forward.
Instead, he moved laterally along the defensive line, staying perfectly onside while stretching the shape.
And the moment Leo Lin's pass dropped behind Otamendi, Salah had already shaken off Laporte through that lateral movement.
He burst forward, cutting diagonally through the gap between Laporte and Otamendi!
In an instant, Manchester City's offside trap collapsed!
Salah was through!
Derek Rae roared on commentary!
"Leo Lin with a surgical through ball!"
"Salah beats the offside trap!"
"He's one-on-one!"
