Lucian did not slow down after leaving the building.
The body remained behind them, the corridor door closing with a quiet click that sounded far too ordinary for what had just happened inside.
Julian followed him out onto the street.
Selene stepped ahead briefly, already speaking into her phone in a low voice Julian couldn't quite hear. Whatever message she delivered was short and efficient. When she finished, she slipped the phone back into her pocket and continued walking as if nothing unusual had occurred.
Julian found that detail unsettling.
Three minutes ago a man had died.
Now they were simply moving on.
Lucian walked beside him in silence, his pace steady and unhurried. Anyone watching them would see nothing more than three people leaving a building late at night.
Julian glanced once at Lucian's hands.
They were clean.
Lucian noticed the look.
"You're checking for blood," he said calmly.
Julian didn't deny it.
"There isn't any," Lucian added.
