Gilles gently laid Mathieu on the bed. Jacqueline pulled the sheets up over her brother before the two of them stepped quietly out of the guest room.
Gilles led her down the hallway and stopped in front of another room, pushing the door open for her.
His parents were extremely wealthy, and most of the time they were out of the country handling business meetings and deals. That meant the enormous house was usually empty, leaving Gilles with the entire place to himself.
"This will be your room," he said.
Jacqueline looked around the spacious guestroom before turning back to him.
"Thank you," she said softly.
The moment the door closed behind them, a dull ache in her stomach reminded her how hungry she was. The only thing she and Mathieu had eaten all day were the snacks Rafael had bought them that morning.
For a moment she hesitated.
She didn't want to ask him for food.
But then again… when had she ever been this formal with her friends?
