Chapter 15 - Elena Luo is getting ready...

The rain had turned into a relentless downpour by the time the three heavy trucks screeched to a halt in the ambulance bay of St. Jude's Hospital.

The blue and red lights of the emergency room reflected off the wet pavement in distorted, neon streaks, but they were soon drowned out by the blinding white floodlights Silas had mounted on the lead vehicle.

"Securing all exits," the Iron Dogs' lead crackled over the radio his voice a low, gravelly hum that sounded more like a machine than a man.

"No one enters, no one leaves until the Empress of Luo empire says so Perimeter is locked."

Elena stepped out of the second truck she didn't look like the broken housewife who had scrubbed floors for six years, and she didn't look like a polished corporate CEO.

With her charcoal suit stained by the dock grime, her hair slightly damp from the spray of the harbor, and her eyes burning with a cold, maternal fury, she looked like a storm that had finally made landfall.

"Elena, the police are already on their way," Silas warned, stepping out beside her, he didn't reach for his rifle yet, but his hand never strayed far from the placed weapon concealed beneath his coat.

"The hospital board will call this a terrorist attack the media will have a field day before we can even explain ourselves."

"Let them call it whatever they want," Elena said, her voice cutting through the roar of the rain with a sharp, metallic edge.

"They are poisoning children for profit. I'm not here to negotiate with the media or the board. I'm here to take back my father's medicine."

They burst through the double doors of the pediatric ward the scene inside was pure, unadulterated chaos, nurses were running up and down between rooms, the high sounds of rubber soles on pine resins mixing with the rhythmic, terrifying beep-beep-beep of machines in distress.

Parents were standing in the hallways, some sobbing into their hands, others being physically held back by private security guards wearing the silver Ochanda badge on their lapels.

"Who is in charge here?" Elena's voice rang out, vibrating with a frequency that seemed to silence the entire room.

A man in a white lab coat stepped forward, his face a mask of pale sweat.

"I am Dr. Aris, the Chief of Pediatrics, you can't be here! This ward is under a strict quarantine by the Ochanda Board! You're trespassing on a bio-hazard zone!"

Elena didn't slow down she walked straight up to him, stopping only when she was inches from his face. She didn't yell, she leaned in, her voice a terrifying, low whisper that sent a shiver down the doctor's spine.

"The 'quarantine' is a lie to cover up the Azure side effects. I know exactly what's in those IV bags, Doctor. My father invented the stabilizer and..... if you don't tell me why these children are turning blue, I will make sure you never practice medicine again if you even survive the night."

She signaled to the Iron dogs they moved with clinical, terrifying precision in a matter of seconds, they had disarmed the Ochanda security guards, pinned them against the walls, and stripped them of their comms.

The parents stopped crying for a moment, staring in shock at the woman in the charcoal suit who had just seized a major hospital ward in under two minutes.

"Silas, get into the hospital's internal server," Elena commanded, her eyes never leaving the doctor.

"I want the logs of every child who was given the 'experimental' treatment in the last seventy-two hours, Chen, get the vial we found at the docks to the pathology lab downstairs, tell them if they don't find the neutralizing agent in the next hour, I'll buy the entire building just so I can fire every single one of them by morning."

"You... you don't understand," Dr. Aris stammered, his eyes darting to the Iron Dogs.

"The Ochanda Board... they said it was a breakthrough. They said it would cure the marrow deficiency in days."

"They lied to you, and you were too scared or too greedy to check the math," Elena snapped.

Suddenly, the hospital's overhead intercom system crackled to life. It wasn't the hospital operator.

It was the same encrypted, distorted voice from the docks—the one that had mocked her over the body of the decoy.

"So, you saved a few children from the immediate symptoms, Elena Luo. How noble, how... predictable. You always did have a soft heart for the weak."

Elena looked up at the speaker, her jaw tightening so hard it ached.

"Ochanda or whoever is hiding behind that mask you're a coward you use children as a shield because you're too afraid to face me in the light."

The voice laughed a dry, mechanical sound.

"Fear is a tool, Elena, not a weakness this wasn't an attack it was a live trial the Blue Poison isn't the end—it's the beginning of the 28-day countdown you found the 'stabilizer' at the docks, but do you have the 'catalyst'? Because without the catalyst, those children will sleep forever by midnight. Their blood will simply... stop carrying air."

The intercom went dead with a sharp pop.

Elena felt the floor tilt beneath her feet, She turned toward the row of glass observation windows, seeing the small, pale faces of the children tucked into their beds.

She realized then the true depth of the Ghost's cruelty. He wasn't just trying to kill her. He was trying to break her soul by making her watch others suffer for her father's "stolen" legacy.

"He's playing with us," Silas hissed, his eyes darting to the hallway monitors.

"He wants you to run in circles until the clock hits zero."

"Then we stop running," Elena said, turning back to the terrified Dr. Aris.

"Doctor, start the high-pressure oxygen enrichment protocols. Now! It won't cure them, but it will buy us the time the Ghost is trying to steal. Silas, we aren't waiting for a confession from Ochanda. We're going to the one person who knows where the catalyst is kept."

"Who?" Silas asked, checking his watch. "The research was destroyed in the 2018 fire."

"My father's lead researcher, the man they said 'died' in the lab explosion," Elena said, her eyes turning to cold flint. She pulled out the old Nokia. A new message had appeared, glowing with an ominous green light.

[The grave in Sector 4 is empty. Look deeper. 28 Days. 22 Hours.]

"The Patriarch is feeding you leads like a hound," Silas muttered, looking at the screen.

"You think he's helping, or just making sure the 'Lion' wins the fight?"

"It doesn't matter," Elena said, grabbing her coat and heading back toward the trucks.

"If the secret is in a grave, then we start digging Silas, get the shovels and the heavy breaching gear. If my father's partner is alive, he's the only one who can stop the blue tint from reaching their hearts."

As they ran back through the rain toward the ambulance bay, Elena caught her reflection in the glass doors. She didn't recognize herself. The woman who had spent years apologizing for her own existence was gone. In her place was a mother who was ready to dig up the dead to save the living.

The heavy engine of the truck roared to life as they climbed in.

"To the Solana City Cemetery," Elena commanded.

"And Silas? Drive like the devil is chasing us. Because if we don't find that catalyst by midnight, the devil has already won."

The truck peeled out of the bay, tires screaming against the wet asphalt, leaving the hospital and the crying parents behind in a blur of white light.

Elena clutched the Nokia in her hand, the countdown ticking away the seconds of her life, and the lives of the children who had no idea their survival rested in the hands of a woman the world had forgotten.

The war for the legacy of the Luo family had moved from the boardroom to the graveyard. And Elena Luo was finally ready to get her hands dirty.
