Silas didn't answer Dennis's question even though his mouth was now free. He just hung his head and stayed silent, but his jaw was clenched tight like he was holding something back. Dennis sighed and finally pulled his smartphone out of his pocket. Seeing this, Silas's eyes went wide.
"What are you doing?" Silas asked.
"Calling the cops, obviously. I just got back and I'm beat. Whether you answer me or not doesn't matter; I'm still calling the police," Dennis replied, clearly annoyed.
"Wait... don't," Silas said.
"Don't? You break into someone's house and then tell them 'don't'? Are you insane? You violated my privacy, broke into my home, used my stuff, and now you're saying don't call the cops? Give me one good reason why I shouldn't report you," Dennis said, his voice rising a bit even though he remained calm.
Silas opened his mouth and then closed it again, unable to find the words. He looked down, his eyes darting back and forth as if searching for an answer.
