Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: The Nature of a Contract

The next morning, Krishak woke before sunrise.

Lunafang was already awake.

The silver wolf cub sat by the window, staring at the fading moon with an intensity unusual for a beast only a few weeks removed from near death.

When Krishak opened his eyes, Lunafang turned and padded over to the bed.

Through their soul contract, Krishak sensed several emotions clearly.

Curiosity.

Trust.

And a quiet desire to grow stronger.

Krishak rested a hand on the cub's head.

"Good morning."

Lunafang let out a soft bark.

As Krishak prepared for the day, he considered something important.

Earth's summoners generally viewed contracted beasts as tools.

They were companions, yes, but the relationship was often one-sided.

The human commanded.

The beast obeyed.

In advanced cultivation civilizations, however, a true contract was far more profound.

It was a partnership in which both parties shared fate, responsibility, and growth.

Krishak decided that Lunafang deserved to understand this from the beginning.

Later that morning, Krishak brought Lunafang to a quiet grove within the academy grounds.

Sunlight filtered through the trees.

The atmosphere was peaceful.

Krishak sat on the grass and motioned for Lunafang to sit beside him.

"Lunafang," he said, speaking softly while transmitting his intent through their bond, "you are not my servant."

The cub tilted his head.

"You are my partner."

Images flowed through the contract.

Krishak showed Lunafang memories of comrades from his previous life.

Friends who had fought beside him.

Companions who had trusted him.

People whose lives had become intertwined with his own.

Lunafang watched in silence.

Then he stepped forward and pressed his forehead against Krishak's chest.

Krishak smiled.

The cub understood.

Krishak began explaining the practical implications of their contract.

"When you grow stronger, I benefit."

"

"When I grow stronger, you benefit."

He continued.

"If either of us is injured, the other will be affected emotionally."

"If either of us is reckless, both may suffer."

Lunafang listened carefully.

Trust, Krishak knew, was not built in a single day.

It was strengthened through countless small actions.

Krishak laid out several principles.

1. Neither would abandon the other.

2. Neither would hide important dangers.

3. Both would continue training diligently.

4. Decisions in battle would prioritize survival.

5. Mutual respect would always be maintained.

Lunafang barked firmly after each point, as if giving his agreement.

By the end, the bond between them felt even more stable.

Krishak then began a new exercise.

He sent mental images through the contract.

A tree.

A river.

A hidden enemy.

Lunafang responded with his own impressions.

At first, the communication was imprecise.

But with practice, the exchange became clearer.

The process strengthened both their coordination and mutual understanding.

Krishak was pleased.

This ability would become invaluable in combat.

Through the bond, Krishak briefly sensed Lunafang's memories.

The cub had been separated from his mother during an attack by stronger beasts.

Injured and alone, he had wandered until collapsing in the clearing where Krishak found him.

The loneliness and fear still lingered.

Krishak stroked the wolf's silver fur gently.

"You are no longer alone."

Lunafang's emotions settled immediately.

That evening, Krishak and Lunafang entered a lightly monitored section of the forest near the academy.

Krishak selected a low-level mutated boar as their target.

Rather than taking the lead himself, he allowed Lunafang to initiate the attack.

The cub stalked silently through the underbrush.

At the perfect moment, Lunafang burst forward.

Krishak moved in simultaneously.

Their coordination was nearly seamless.

The battle ended within moments.

Lunafang stood over the defeated beast, tail wagging proudly.

Krishak laughed softly.

"Well done."

The hunt reinforced an important lesson.

Lunafang was not merely receiving protection.

He was becoming an active contributor.

His confidence grew noticeably.

And Krishak's trust in him deepened.

Together, they harvested useful materials and returned to the academy.

That night, through his clone, Krishak shared part of this lesson with Karan.

Master Kiran explained:

"A true bond with a spirit beast is built on trust."

Karan listened with shining eyes.

He was more determined than ever to become worthy of such a companion.
