Chapter 4 - unraveling

As I trudged to my locker, lost in the sea of chatter, Olivia's enthusiastic tackle took me by surprise. My best friend since forever, she was the one person who made the dark clouds part, if only for a bit. I still couldn't wrap my head around why she was an outcast; she was the epitome of perfection - porcelain skin, light blonde hair framing her heart-shaped face, and piercing blue eyes that sparkled like the morning dew. Her toned figure turned heads, and I often wondered what her life would've been like if she'd grown up "normal". The thought sent a pang of sadness through me. But I was glad she was here, with me, navigating the treacherous waters of high school.

"Guess what?!" she squealed, her grin infectious, and I couldn't help but smile.

"What?" I asked, playing along, as she bounced beside me.

"Since it's my birthday on Friday, wanna hang out at our spot?" Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and I nodded eagerly.

"Of course, Mel! It's your birthday. We'll celebrate, I promise." Her face lit up, and she linked arms with me, pulling me towards class. I sighed, a small smile playing on my lips. Best friends, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

The day crawled by like a snail on valium. "ughrrrg.... how much i hated school" but I've learnt to like it thanks to my asshole so called pack mates.

trudged to, Liv's smile brightening my gloomy mood as she fell into step beside me. We chatted about the usual stuff - classes, friends, the latest drama - our conversation flowing easily as we walked in sync. But Mel seemed off, her gaze darting around the hallway like she was searching for someone.

I raised an eyebrow, curious. That's when I saw him - Byran, looking like a freaking model in his grey long-sleeve shirt and black skinny jeans. His messy hair added to the whole "I'm too cool for school" vibe, and I felt a twinge of... wait, what was I thinking? Drayton, not Byran. Ugh, what's wrong with me?

Liv's gaze locked onto Byran, and they exchanged this intense look that made me giggle. Ah, young love.

"Erhm," I cleared my throat, breaking the spell. "Liv, this is Byran, Byran, this is Olivia, my best friend."

"You two know each other?" Liv asked, her tone a mix of surprise and curiosity.

"Yeah, I kinda bumped into him yesterday - literally," I laughed.

Byran smirked, his eyes cycling at the corners. "Olivia, a beautiful name for a beautiful girl."

Liv rolled her eyes, her sarcasm on point. "Shut it, dushbag."

she then turned to me and said "this is my annoying cousin"

Byran chuckled, unfazed. "Meant very handsome."

"You wish," Liv retorted, her grin betraying her annoyance.

"Then tell me why almost everyone is looking here" he said smirking while looking at our faces

Just as I looked up, I met the familiar eyes of Drayton, standing at the doorway. Oh shit, I just looked him in the eyes! I was never supposed to do that! He's probably going to beat me after school! I shivered at the thought but somehow didn't feel scared that he would hurt me.

unconsciously Byran walked up to Drayton to talk

I looked back up to see him still standing there, staring at me with a loving look in his eyes. Wait, loving!? No that can't possibly be it. Just as soon as it was there, it was gone, the familiar grey blue eyes staring at me with disgust. I looked away, tears brimming at my eyes. Why was he making me feel so heartbroken? I'd never acted this way before, why now?

then the teacher came into the class, and everyone settled down

"Hey nae, you, okay?" Liv said quietly, her hand on my arm as she looked at me with concern.

"I'm fine," I whispered, knowing clear and well that she heard me. We were werewolves after all.

She nodded hesitantly yet giving me a knowing look that meant 'we'll talk later'. I nodded back before staring at the teacher, trying to drown myself in class and avoid the unnecessary thoughts that plagued my mind.

The rest of the class had gone by extremely long and uncomfortable. I could feel Drayton watching me the entire time, but I never looked his way. It was nerve wrecking. Trudging my way to lunch, I spotted Drayton leaning against Tiffany in the hall, doing some x-rated kissing. his hands on her buttocks, pulling her towards him tomorrow, like she wasn't already on him. While her already short skirts jumped up, almost fully exposing her legs, her hands on his neck, while they suck each other's face disgustingly.

Normally, I would've looked disgusted and walked away, but today, I stood there watching them. My anger was boiling and all I could do was stare. Before they noticed, I shook my head and walked into the cafeteria, ignoring the tugging pull at my heart for leaving Drayton behind with that skank.

I spotted Liv sitting with Byran. They were eating and arguing over something I stifled a laugh. They looked too much like couples

Byran noticed me first and waved. I waved back before walking towards them and sitting across from them.

Liv noticed me and grinned mischievously. My eyes widened. Liv was planning something, and it wasn't going to be good. Before she could say anything though, I was roughly pushed into the table, the edge digging into my already hurt ribs. I bit my lip, holding in a scream.

Byran seemed to reach out towards me, while Liv growled lowly at the guy that pushed me. I gave them a small smile, although it was hard to considering I was still biting my lip, but I managed to show them that I was alright. Byran and Liv were still a bit skeptical, so I just shrugged at them.

"It's okay guys, not like it hasn't happened before. I'm just gonna go to the bathroom okay?" I stated, getting up to go check on my bruises.

"I'll come with you!!" Liv said, abruptly standing up. She wobbled a bit, before Byran grabbed her waist, steadying her.

"N-no, it's fine. I'll be back in a bit," I said in a rush. I walked towards the cafeteria doors and stepped into the hallway.

Letting a breath out, I closed my eyes, steadying myself before walking to the bathroom.

The mirror greeted me to a small girl, whose eyes were glistening with tears. I shook my head at my reflection. Sighing, I pulled my shirt up a bit, checking on the bruises. I was glad nobody else was in the bathroom. Evidently, I spoke too soon.

Slam! The door banged. I turned around trying to spot who it was. Before I could, I was slammed against the wall, a muscled body pressed right up against me. Tingles and sparks lit my skin like a lick of fire. I was mesmerized, until I remembered the compromising position I was in with some stranger. I looked up, gasping in shock at who it was.
