The phone kept buzzing in my hand like it was alive and angry. It would not stop. The vibration ran through my palm and up my arm. It felt like it was shaking my bones.
Sky was staring at me. He still held his granola bar, but he was not eating it anymore. It hung from his fingers. His mouth was half open. He looked like he could not decide if he wanted to shout at me or hit me.
I pressed ignore so hard my thumb hurt. I pushed the phone deep into my pocket like that would make everything disappear.
Sky did not look away. "Daniel. Who was that?"
"Wrong number," I said.
The lie sounded weak. Even I did not believe it.
He gave a short laugh. It was sharp and angry. "A wrong number does not make someone look like they just saw a dead body. Try again."
"Sky, let it go."
