Chapter 44 - Oh My Yeti

We moved forward after the jug was full of the mana infused liquid. The part that we didn't know at the time was that we just grabbed enough of that liquid to sell that would cover the cost of the kingdom for a year. Ghaston wasn't interested in that aspect of it, he wanted it so that we all would grow from the liquid as he knew its properties were more beneficial to those who weren't fully grown.

We moved on to the next area that had a clearing and appeared to be the housing of these yetis as they had made loads of beds out of beast hides that appeared to be other yetis. The white fur appears to be the goto fashion of all of the giants and we were wondering if these yetis were enslaved by the giants. It didn't really matter if they were or not as it was our job to eliminate them all.

Adam and Abby insisted through the link that they wanted to quickly take out the group of yetis that we had come across. I had counted fourteen but Wispy had risen up to the ceiling and could see everything in the area and told us there were another ten behind a natural wall about a hundred yards ahead. They would hear the first sounds of battle and join in.

Wispy then summoned an earthwall between the ten and fourteen which allowed for Abby and Adam to go on their planned route. It was fun to watch as they systematically eliminated one yeti after another with quick precise attacks as if they had been practicing together. Abby's speed and Adam's power together caused such havoc as Abby would trip up and create an off balance moment for the beast then Adam would come in with the finishing blow.

One by one the heads popped off the yetis as it was Adam's new favorite thing to accomplish. We soon heard him say "Pop" each time he would send a head popping off a body. I was having fun watching but also felt like I could get a bit of practice in so the next head Adam popped I aimed an icespike with the sole purpose to just pierce or knock the head as it flew in the air. Hearing Adam's 'Pop' and seeing his location I let loose an icespike that hit the head and sent it over the wall and right in between the ten yetis that had been cut off by the earthwall.

The roar from those ten yetis seeing their comrade's head pierced with an icespike and also missing its body enraged the group. They also didn't know where to go as the way they knew was now blocked. The earthwall spell only lasted a minute so once the time ran out the group of ten charged forward. I sent a firewall from my bow right at the entrance after I saw three run through. By the time it landed and created its firewall there were three trapped while one was burning and stumbled through now missing its feet.

Abby and Adam were waiting for the yetis as they charged forward as they had cleared out the previous fourteen as a team and they continued to do so with the charging yetis. The three yeti finally getting to come out saw their comrades get destroyed, changed their tactics and started firing icespikes. The first round sent to Adam connected but only knocked him off balance for a moment. The armor on his body blocked the attacks and alerted him to the ranged attacks.

Wispy fired an arcane orb at the three yetis hitting the one in the middle, completely melting the beast down to its core. The two on its sides were both badly injured and it only took a single swing of his katana to finish them off as Adam had approached them right after the orb had exploded. Joey hurried up and grabbed the cores off the ground as we all approached the next opening as we could feel the power of the platinum getting closer.

Gus appeared at the opening and informed us what he could see which was everything. The next room had twenty yeti all sleeping or lying down currently. There was one wearing armor and had weapons next to him where he was sleeping with two female yeti. Gus informed us that there were four youths and he would take care of them so we wouldn't have to.

Without even being able to interject or protest Gus lunged at the sleeping yeti youths and ate them one by one without making a sound as he was able to envelope the entire beast into its maw. Wispy confirmed I wasn't losing my mind but Gus shivered and his random strands of fur were now white. The change was subtle but it was there if you knew what to look for.

I thought we were about to be in a battle but that didn't happen yet. Ghaston through the link informed us to move forward quietly and to see if we could silently assassinate as many as we could. Suddenly we were all holding our breath trying to move as quietly as possible. I wanted to comment to the team that we needed someone to learn a silent spell but refrained from saying anything.

The first round of sleeping assassinations was a success. Joey, Abby, Adam, Ghaston, Dante, Gus, and Gina all took out one each with a quick all at once attack. I was ready to attack anything that moved and only one of the yeti adjusted their sleeping position just after the coordinated assassination. Then while moving to the next the blood from one that was already assassinated had spilt onto the floor making it slippery. Maddy of all people slipped and fell grabbing the leg of a sleeping yeti waking it up.

Chaos ensued from that moment as the platinum yeti woke up with a roar. We looked over and he had a massive spiked mallet that he was pulling off its resting place on the wall. The smaller swords were grabbed by the two females and they were the only yetis we had seen use weapons thus far. The other yetis waking up that weren't in range of us to attack right away started firing icespikes at us.

It was good to know that no matter what none of them could hurt as the platinum yeti sent out a massive icespike that connected directly with Joey. No one had expected the attack to go after Joey, so even Wispy started to apologize, thinking that the beast was missing its target. The icespike had connected directly in his back through his heart if it had pierced his armor. Instead the force sent his small frame hurdling into the wall several yards away.

The next icespike was fired at Gina who was flying above looking for an opportunity to strike but didn't currently pose a threat. Then I realized it was targeting who we perceived who we needed to defend the least.

"Hey ugly! Attack me!" I shouted at the platinum beast.

'What is wrong with you?' Ghaston asked me through the link.

'Watch and learn' I simply replied.

I pulled back my bow and unloaded a full power arcane orb. The arrow flew true to its target and as it arrived it expanded out and exploded. Somehow the platinum yeti pushed the two females out and pushed himself backways to get out of the explosive range. The move shocked all of us as it was quite impressive. The shock didn't happen to Wispy fortunately as the spiked mallet came crashing down onto my head suddenly.

Right before the mallet could make contact an arcane barrier right above my head appeared and deflected the mallet. Tim lunged forward getting in between myself and the platinum beast. Travis yelled at me to back up as I wasn't the tank. I was certain that the arcane orb was going to do the trick but the yeti was too quick.

Abby took care of the few silver yetis that were left trying to wake up but either never did or barely did before Abby got to them. Her speed helped out the process as her speed was needed for the main trio. The trio were keeping us on our toes as no one wanted to feel the power of the icespike connecting despite it not being lethal it still hurt.

Tim and Travis had been working on a pinch move that would align their turtle shells as Travis now could cast a turtle shell wall. The pinch also helped to create a nice reflective bounce back effect which the yetis quickly learned as they attacked the shells and quickly found out that they were reflecting the icespikes.

Adam blinked behind the one female who had just been targeting him. She wasn't expecting him to disappear from her sight and wasn't aware of the attack from behind when she was split in two by his katana. Then in a move I hadn't seen in a while Adam let go of his katana and grabbed his great longsword off his back while jumping in the air at the second female yeti. In one great swing of the longsword he came down with a great force splitting the body of the yeti as one half went right and the other half went left.

The platinum yeti roared and for a brief moment I thought the ceiling might cave in on us and not having any idea how deep we were I doubt we would have survived a cave in. Abby had already been quickly approaching the platinum yeti despite being told to not attack it from Ghaston. She slashed at the legs of the enormous yeti drawing blood and causing the beast to roar at her. He swung his massive mallet at her but she was too quick.

Lacy had taken a bite but couldn't break the fur of the platinum beast. Only the gold weapons that we fortunately had worked on the platinum beast. Ghaston and Gus charged into the fight and did a combination attack that left multiple slashes in the chest armor of the platinum yeti and also removed the helmet with the spear attack. Adam followed the attacks of the lion with his own arcane flame, Dante then summoned and appeared behind the beast unloading out of both of its maws arcane flame.

The room shook as the platinum beast's death felt like it was bringing down the room. It shook for several seconds and for a moment we all thought we might have to make a run for it instead of collecting the treasures that were there. Thankfully the vibrations stopped and we were able to take in the surroundings.

Wispy melded back with me so I could see better and soon we were all searching the room for anything that might be worth keeping. Having our own dimensional storage meant we could grab basically anything and bring it back with us. I grabbed the swords that the females had despite the fact that I couldn't wield them. I figured they would bring in a few dragbars.

Wispy vision came through for us as I saw something in the wall in the corner. The wall was breaking and with a boulder attack I was able to break the wall and expose a hidden room that was about ten by ten yards. There were boxes filling the entire square and as we pulled them out we discovered seven of them as if it was meant for each of us to have one.
