We had only taken one of the platinum giants out as Adam was able to catch them off guard and removed the legs of the one then able to decapitate it. The nine left had done a better job of defending against Adam and Ghaston's advances and were now teaming up against them. I had the three busy in the middle trying to figure out where the arcane spikes were coming from as I didn't stop rotating between the three.
The battle was at a stalemate as neither Adam nor Ghaston could get a killing blow in on any of the giants around them. Gina's attacks weren't fatal, Gus's attacks weren't fatal, Ghaston's spear couldn't find a fatal hit but the giants were all bleeding. Maddy at this point was going back and forth between the two sending life mend spell after life mend spell to help refresh the two who were in a constant state of motion.
Adam's katana suddenly sped up and all of his movements increased substantially and I remembered he had a spell that had a long cooldown but gave a huge boost to speed, arcane reflexes. He parried a swing from an axe from the one giant and in one motion removed the hand off of the axe. The next giant swung its sword down and Adam moved out of the way at the last moment then in a swift motion came down on the hand of that giant holding the sword. Now two of his giants were weaponless and down a hand.
The two giants roared in agony but then did the unexpected and their hands grew back in just a moment and they grabbed their weapons off the ground removing their old hands off the handles. The hands weren't the same as the rest of the giant as it appeared to be a temporary frost hand. It also didn't stop Adam from doing what he was doing as he removed the third giant's weapon hand only to turn around and see what the other two giants had grown their back and were holding their weapons again.
I would imagine Adam would have been much more frustrated than he was as he lost all concern for the hands regrowing when he saw the rest of our team join in. Abby wasn't one to sit around so she found a way down and told Joey and Travis to hurry up and join in. Abby had gone to help Ghaston who was the closest to where they came down from as Joey and Travis charged the three in the middle that I had been distracting.
Travis and Tim trapped the three in the middle and through the link Travis told me to help Adam. I pulled by bow and switched to boulders to knock them down. The first one I connected with was knocked forward kneeling right in front of Adam as if he wanted Adam to decapitate him. Adam didn't hesitate and then yelled "Next" as if he wanted me to do it again. I didn't have the angle on the rest like I did with that one to knock it over perfectly for him to behead but I sent out another boulder knocking a giant off its balance but not enough to lower himself in range of Adam's katana.
I glanced over to the other groups to see what was going on and two of the giants that had been fighting against Ghaston were no longer and the third was going down as I looked over. Abby's speed was too much for the giants as she was slicing their legs, weakening them from being able to stand, opening up for their heads to be attacked by Ghaston and Gus. My next boulder didn't really budge the giant so I changed my approach.
Adam had two to battle and I remembered how much stuns can help in a fight and my chain lightning could stun two enemies that were within ten yards of each other. The two giants were standing back to back as Adam's blinks were a huge issue. My chain lightning arrow hit and stunned the giants for two seconds which Adam used to unload arcane flame at their chests. Dante was summoned to do the same to the other and the two were doing an arcane flame sandwich with giants as the meat.
That moment I was really glad that I had put Wispy on Adam as an ice spear twice the size of Adam came flying out of nowhere and exploded a foot away from Adam's body. Wispy put up an arcane barrier just in time to block the attack. Even Wispy told me later that if it would have been metal instead of a spell the spear would have pierced Adam. I hadn't seen it but he had put up two arcane barriers, the first was five yards out and the spear pierced it completely, however slowing down enough for the second to stop it.
The one to throw an ice spear appeared to be the largest out of the group and was one of the giants in the middle that I had been harassing. The moment I stopped is when he started to do ranged attacks that so far had been stopped by Wispy on both sides and then Travis and Tim's shields were blocking him up close. Adam was now free and joined Travis and Joey in the middle group as Ghaston was finishing up his group as Gus just slashed the entire stomach out of the last giant in that group.
Abby was moving around so quickly that it's hard to describe all that she did. The easiest way to put it is that she made contact with all but the initial giant to fall. She and Lacy were making the lives of the giants miserable as the two of them were making small cuts all along the giant's legs. She simply lacked the power to do more damage than that against the massive platinum beasts. It was incredibly helpful to say the least.
Joey had each of his sais constantly flying at the head of a giant or being pulled back. The sais would also draw blood as they were coated in arcane energy that cut the skin of the giants with ease. The few times the giants would block the sais they would pierce their forearms forcing out a massive roar from the giant. Easily the coolest aspect of his return weapon was he had the ability to either have it fly back to him or port back to him so if it got stuck say in a giant's forearm he could have it port back to him. The one giant even attempted to catch a sais but was burned trying to do so and Joey was able to port it back.
I stuck with the chain lightning even though they had separated now that Adam and Ghaston were joining in the middle as Abby had them separating already. The stuns would give my team the time to make lethal hits without the fear of the giant blocking or dodging the attacks. Ghaston stuck to blocking waiting for me to get to his giant as I started with the one that Adam was fighting and making my way from left to right.
It was as if the giants were just frustrated with everything that was going on. Would be my best guess on why I was suddenly the target of the next ice spear. Maybe it was because I was looking at a different target but when the ice spear hit me I for one was not expecting to be sent back ten yards.
The rest of the battle I was told about as I did not see it as I apparently lost consciousness for a few minutes till Maddy realized I was down and put a life mend spell on me. What I was told is that Ghaston and Adam met in the middle and Abby had slashed all their legs so much that they all fell to their knees giving the two the chance to place killing blows on the giants. They all had been cheering then realized I wasn't a part of it as I was laying on the floor.
Waking up I could see that everyone was busy clearing the gear off of the giants that was salvageable while Ghaston was busy setting up the device to convert this into a dungeon. I was actually quite intrigued to see what was going to happen when I realized that the wall once again had a glow coming from behind the wall. I sent an arcane orb into the wall that was glowing and once again seven boxes were lying in wait.
Abby was the first to open up a box and this time it wasn't a potion. She held in her hand a small dagger that sparked lightning out of the handle as she held it. She swung the dagger a few times and as she swung it, the blade extended out in an electric arc as if the blade expanded out but in lightning form. Travis was next to grab a box and the same thing happened a dagger formed only this had his turtle shell as a handle and as he swung his it extended out in the natural green energy.
Ghaston was beyond fascinated as he exclaimed "Fascinating!" as he grabbed his own and a dagger formed with a flash of light emitting from the dagger as it formed in his hand. The slashes he threw extended the blade in an extended light energy that looked like it was light itself.
Maddy grabbed the next box and her dagger had small faery wings for the handle and the green blue life energy had a slight glow coming from it. The swing she made looked like it would feel good if that makes sense. She literally stabbed me to see if it would hurt or heal and I felt the power of her life mend. She gave me a smile as she thought it was comical to stab someone to heal them but she wasn't going to complain about not having to use her energy to heal someone.
Joey grabbed a box and to all of our surprise he did not get a dagger. He received a gem that briefly sat in his hand before it then shot into his chest armor and embedded itself dead center. The armor that had been glowing in earth green energy from his red panda suddenly had red energy like he was suddenly being fed fire energy. Joey's eyes had closed when the gem made contact with his chest then when he opened them again his eyes were bright red.
"I just learned a spell called Dragon's Breath and a spell called Hydra Fire." As Joey said the two spells his hands spewed out a flame similar to what Adam could do then about five yards away from Joey a head of fire emerged from the ground with the head looking in all directions appearing to want to find a target. The flame looked just like a hydra head from a dragonkind hydra.
Adam was the next to grab a box and it too shocked us not to become a dagger as we were expecting him of all people to get a weapon. It wasn't a gem that formed either or a potion, for Adam he received a necklace that when he put it on the black beads showed cracks of arcane energy flowing out of them. Adam's eyes went wide as his new necklace according to Dante just upgraded all of his arcane spells to gold.
I was the last to grab a box as I was the furthest away and I was really intrigued by each that was opened so I took my time to get my own. The box transformed and in my hand a dagger formed, the handle fit my hand perfectly but it was crystal clear. The entire blade was similar to the bow that I had and I realized the dagger must have been the same material. I tried to send a fireball out of the dagger but it only glowed as if it was on fire.
Wispy informed me that dagger would take on the spell type I thought up would apply it through touch and had a 50% increase to spell power. The thought came to me that it would create a more powerful barrier and while it was in my hand the dagger glowed arcane purple and a barrier appeared right in front of me. Holding the dagger in my right hand and the bow in my left I tried to fire a shot off with my bow while holding the dagger. My ring finger and pinky finger were able to produce the string and fire a fireball from the bow.
The sudden attack startled everyone as they were now looking at me like I was crazy but Adam noticed what I had just done and asked if I could use the dagger to pull the string. I tried to pull off what he was saying. It felt like it might work but I was doing something wrong. I tried a bunch of different angles of holding the dagger as well as tried different spells but it felt like it wanted to connect but wasn't connecting. I gave up after a few minutes and I think he got his answer as I never responded.
