I had noticed that a tall slender female dressed in hooded leather armor showing multiple daggers standing off to the side not saying anything. The woman stood still but was leaning against the wall taking in the entire scene in front of her as we kids demonstrated our abilities. She still hadn't said anything when felt my legs being swept out from beneath me. Landing on my back I was looking up at the woman who was holding a dagger just above my head.
She was unable to move as Wispy had put an arcane barrier in between us. As my body had fallen my belt activated my armor and by the time I hit the floor the armor was encasing me. Everyone was shocked at what they were seeing as this woman was suddenly holding a dagger above my head with her showing signs of trying to get through the barrier unaware of why it was stuck in the air.
"If you want to live you should get off me right now!" I shouted at the woman who was grunting, putting two hands on her dagger as if it was going to help.
"How did you block me?" She said in a quiet gruff voice that seemed like she never spoke above a whisper ever in her life.
Wispy to answer her did a small circle in front of her face as if he was saying I am the one to block you. I didn't want her to target Wispy so I told her "I could sense your intentions once you lunged at me and knew you were going for my head."
"I would say it was your wisp that saved you." She retorted. I was still unsure of what was going on but she finally was no longer trying to push the dagger into my face and was standing up. She offered her hand. I did not take it and got up on my own and backed away from her. I looked over at everyone else and only Maddy was about to swing at the woman with her staff as she held it above her head and was inching forward.
I am not sure if it was the fact that she suddenly attacked me out of the blue but I could see her body in a unique view suddenly. The point that her heart would be the best place to target was highlighted the same with between her eyes. I had clenched my own dagger momentarily before she had released me but when I had grabbed it there was a line across her neck highlighting where I should aim.
'You are not losing your mind, when we are in combat with known entities, their weak points will now be highlighted for easier aiming.' Wispy could read my thoughts as I was trying to figure out what happened and why I could see the targets I was seeing. Then when she stopped her intent to kill me the marks all disappeared.
I looked around the room at the rest of the group and suddenly I could see their heart rates and emotions were listed next to their names. The information was weird to read at first but then I realized that Maddy's heart rate was elevated where no one else's was. I also found out later that only Maddy had seen me attacked. Everyone else saw me on the ground with the new tutor above me offering to help me up.
"Vicky Insight, Austin called in a favor I owe so I am here to teach you six what I can. The wisp master here will be the most work needed. You have no close quarter combat skills, that has to change if you are going to survive in this world. The little panda boy could learn some techniques as well. I have nothing for dragonkind or the fae. The lightning wolf I might be able to help as well as I have a lightning leopard." She introduced herself to us as Adam approached to shake her hand not knowing she just attacked me.
She reached out and quickly grabbed his hand and in a quick movement had Adam by the throat with a dagger touching the skin. "Never let your guard down. The moment you do, you are dead." Vicky hissed in his ear. Adam wasn't aware the lesson was already starting but that action alone caused him to never like her. I also think it made Adam even more ferocious as it seemed like his time to temper now was an instant away.
Little did she know but Dante had emerged and was about to bite her head off when she released him. The air was extremely tense as no one knew why this woman was attacking us while claiming to be teaching us. I didn't realize she was teaching us to be conscious of our surroundings using all our senses at all times. She was teaching us by literally showing us how quickly we could be taken advantage of by anyone.
The level of paranoia she must live in on the constant was the only thing I could think about while she continued to talk to Joey and show him dagger techniques and how to grip them. While I was off wondering about her teaching methods she showed how fast she was when Joey sent a sai right at her face. She dodged it and caught it as it passed her head in one motion sending it back at Joey who wasn't prepared for the returned weapon at the speed of which it came. He only had time to block it with his other sai and she yelled "again" like a drill sergeant.
Travis and Sergei were working on the different things you can do with the turtle shells and were discussing techniques with the shield. Adam and Amber were discussing Dante while Abby was standing there looking at the two as if it was a bad thing. With Joey and Vicky discussing and working on the dagger techniques it left Maddy and myself alone to our devices.
"You can calm down, she isn't going to hurt us, your heart rate is still high!" I pointed out to Maddy as I grabbed her hand hoping it would calm her down. She was on edge from the whole event with Vicky but apparently my touch calmed her down. She also gave me a quizzical look on how I would know her heart rate was so high.
"Wispy vision has been upgraded to silver and now I can see all sorts of information and one thing is your heart rate which says you're excited or angry or if you're calm. So if we are in a situation where we can't talk I can assess your heart rate to see if it's ok or not ok." I explained my latest upgrade from Wipsy's inception with Angel the shadow wolf. I didn't learn a spell, it was a passive upgrade, Wispy explained to me that it was a passive upgrade while in combat.
"When are you going to get Vicky's skill?" Maddy looked at me knowing that I had no idea how to answer what it felt like. I had no way to answer her but I figured if Amber explains it to Sergei and Vicky they will both be intrigued. That was also the first time Maddy had inquired about me getting more powerful by having Wispy do his inception spell. I realized then that she was trying to help and I gave her a warm smile.
"One day, no rush, I think that Wispy will continue to grow and we will get skills and spells that will make us more and more powerful but seeing Sergei and feeling the power coming off of him I realized how small and weak we are. Adam has gold ranked spells but his strength and agility are probably barely silver at best." I pointed out as it was the best I could come up with given the question.
I then noticed that I could see the different ranks of the gear that the tutors were wearing as they had their own gear on and not the professors' robes. The new upgrades to my vision really started to take shape that day. Sergei and Vicky had beasts for Wispy to cast inception on but a part of me wanted to see if they would inquire about it or not. The teaching so far didn't feel quite right but then again our new tutors weren't your normal professors.
