Chapter 1 - Holy Crap

Max woke up in a white room.

There were no windows, no doors—just smooth, endless walls and a strangely comfortable arrangement of furniture that made the place feel less like a prison and more like a waiting room designed by someone with excellent taste.

"What the hell is going on?" Max muttered as he pushed himself upright.

That was when he noticed her.

A woman leaned back casually in a chair behind a desk, legs crossed, completely absorbed in a manga. She wore an expression of pure relaxation, flipping pages as if nothing in the universe demanded her attention—certainly not the confused young man who had just woken up in an impossible space.

"Uh… excuse me?" Max said carefully. "What am I doing here?"

The woman jolted slightly, blinking before looking up at him.

"Oh—great," she sighed. "They really sent someone to me during my break." She glanced back down at the manga. "I was finally getting to my favorite version from Universe 268 of Reincarnated as a Slime."

Max stared. "…What?"

She closed the book with a snap and waved a hand dismissively. "Right, right. You probably don't have the full picture yet. Short version? You died."

Max froze.

"And before you panic," she continued, already sounding bored, "your universe clearly understands reincarnation stories, so this shouldn't be too shocking. I get to send you to another world with whatever cheat abilities I feel like giving you." Her eyes suddenly lit up. "Actually… that gives me an idea."

Dozens of translucent screens appeared in the air around her, filled with rapidly scrolling text and glowing symbols.

"Wait—hold on—" Max started, but she was already leaning forward, excited, cutting him off before he could finish a sentence.

"You will reincarnate in the Reincarnated as a Slime universe," she declared.

"Wait, wait," Max said quickly. "I get that I'm dead, but why that universe? And what are the rules?"

She grinned. "Because I'm a huge fan. I'll even send you to my favorite version. It's slightly different from the one you know, but most major events remain the same."

She tapped a screen, and new text appeared.

"As for rules," she continued, "I'll grant you more freedom than usual. You may not take the place of this version of Rimuru. You are an addition, not a replacement. You're free to add and combine as many skills as you want—within reason."

Max opened his mouth, but she raised a finger.

"No existing Ultimate Skills. You can make abilities with similar functions, but no direct copies. And to make things interesting—" her smile sharpened, "—you cannot delete failed fusions. Mistakes stay."

She leaned back again. "So? How about it?"

Max hesitated, then nodded slowly. "Fine. But I have one request."

"Oh?"

"I don't want to be alone."

The words came out quieter than he expected. Max had always been extremely antisocial—so much so that he couldn't even bring himself to try online dating. Years of bullying had carved that isolation deep into him.

The woman studied him for a moment, then smiled more softly.

"Oh, you won't have trouble with that in this universe," she said. "But if it helps, I'll create someone for you. An opposite—someone destined for you. Even if you end up with a few other women along the way, you'll always find your way back to them."

She snapped her fingers, and more screens appeared in front of Max.

"Go wild with your character," she said. "Just remember—you aren't replacing anything. You're being added."

As Max worked, adjusting settings and crafting abilities that felt both insane and oddly natural, a question nagged at him.

"Excuse me," he said at last. "Why are you so obsessed with this universe? Not just this version—I'm guessing you've got surprises planned."

She laughed. "Because this is one of the few universes that allows true creativity. Endless possibilities for Skills and Arts. No hard limits—as long as you're strong enough to handle it."

She shrugged. "Most versions tone things down later because the protagonist becomes too restricted. Less fun. But that's fine."

Her eyes flicked to the screens. "Now then… let's see what you've made."

"…Holy shit," the woman muttered.

She stared at the screen, genuine surprise flashing across her face. "You actually created multiple original Ultimate Skills. Some of these aren't even fully calculated yet."

She laughed under her breath. "And a Veldanava-based skill? Bold. Very bold."

She waved a hand. "Normally you'd start with Spiritual and Holy resistance at most—but a deal's a deal. I'll add a few adjustments on my end. Your Intrinsic Skills should fully calculate by the time you wake up."

She stretched. "Your destined partner will take a bit longer to create. The earliest I can drop you in will be shortly after the children receive their Greater Spirits."

She snapped her fingers.

"Have fun," she said with a grin. "And don't make it boring."

The world went dark as Max lost consciousness.
