Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Dance with the Devil

"He needs to die" The Boss said.

Seven men and women stood in a room. These were the seven strongest people in the government organisation, apart from Mecer.

The all nodded and prepared to attack that night.

My mother was walking home that night, getting back from a late night in town with her friends. She stumbled to the door fumbling with her keys at the door.

"Come on, come on," she said getting more frustrated.

A sword flew through the air, glinting in the moonlight.

My mother dropped dead instantly. In her last moments she had thought of her family. How excited she was to see them again. How she couldn't wait to take them shopping tomorrow, to buy them gifts. She felt like she had discovered her family again.

All of that was ripped away.

I heard her body hit the floor. Curious as to what the sound was, I checked through the peephole.

I saw her body, blood pouring out.

I opened the door, taking the sword out of her body.

I knelt down, resting my hand on her body, hoping and praying that her soul my rest more than it had in her human lifetime.

"You can come quietly" a man shouted from the distance.

A group of seven people emerged from the shadows. Three dual-wield swords with the other four had swords but also had other weapons such as knifes and shurikens. I knew I had to end this as Five was still in the house.

Without saying a word, I dashed at one of the dual-wielding men. The man blocked my first strike, parried my next two and jumped backwards, escaping my pressure. Three others ran at me making me stop in my tracks.

Quickly surveying the three people running at me, I chose to dash at one of the women. Our swords clashed with our first strikes. Before we could clash again, I threw a kick at her abdomen which landed perfectly.

She stumbled back, winded, gasping for air. I dashed behind her grabbing her neck, holding my sword to her neck.

They all stopped.

"Let her go man," one of the men said.

"Then leave here," I responded.

"You know we can't do that. You can't expect to stand in the machine and expect it not to turn on you." He said.

"Then why are you all here. Aren't you in the machine as well?" I said.

"This is our purpose that's why. I thought it was yours as well." He responded.

I sighed, I took my sword and slashed the woman's throat, killing her instantly.

"My purpose is to protect Five."

Engaged all six started to attack. I dodged and parried strike after strike. I tried to jump back to create space between all of us. However, the pursuit was relentless. Looking up and down the street I tried to find anything I could use to isolate members of the group.

There was nothing I could use.

So, I turned it up.

Jumping to the roof of my house I started to use the final technique taught in our training. I didn't know whether my body could handle it, but I had no other option.

The Immortal technique: Dance with the Devil.

I slit my wrists letting the blood hit the tiles of the roof. Marks appeared all over my body removing the limiter on my abilities. My sword formally white, turned a dark shade of red as if the blood of my enemies had already been spilled.

God's chosen soldier had fallen.

The remaining six members of the strike team looked at me in fear. Who they saw wasn't human anymore. Master or Slave, they didn't know. All they knew was that the machine had turned on them too.

I dashed towards one of the men. He looked around wondering where I had gone. Panicking he turned around. By the time he did his head was detached from his body. Before it hit the ground, I kicked it towards another woman. She reacted just in time dodging the head of her former teammate. Though there was nothing she could do about me. Running towards her I cut her chest open before seeing the four other members run towards me.

I dodged all of their blows effortlessly. Dancing and weaving to the melody of their fear. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the woman whose chest I just cut, stand up and threw a bottle at me.

I smiled and moved to the side.

The bottle flew past me and went through one of the windows of my house and I thought nothing of it. Until I smelt the smoke. Instantly I started to run towards the house, I couldn't let Five die. I jumped into the window of Five's room.

"Five…where are you?"

She wasn't in the room. I panicked searching all around the room. Checking closets, under the bed but to no avail. I couldn't believe that she wasn't in there.

A man appeared behind me screaming. As he did, he slashed my back as I screamed in pain. The immortal technique may make you strong, but you are extremely vulnerable when using it.

The pain was immeasurable. My blood started to boil turning my skin a light shade of red. My body temperature had risen to the point my vision was blurry. Through all of this I remembered why I was fighting. That bright light who had granted me a second opportunity at life.

I focused my vision my brown eyes turning black. A flurry of slashes erupted from my arms moving to my blade. I kept on swinging without any thoughts. Focusing only on my north star. I blacked out swinging.

When I came to, I was surrounded by flames. The body of the man I was fighting lay in pieces on the floor. I snapped back to my senses. I ran through the house searching everywhere. The flames burnt my skin engulfing my flesh in hellfire. And I couldn't find her.

I walked outside where the five waited for me.

The last five members of the strike team.

And Five.

As she turned around, she saw me. Her face resembled a statue, void of any emotion. I walked past her positioning myself in front of her. Then I raised my sword ready to fight once more.
