A heavy silence filled the ward.
Finnick parted his lips slightly, and for a moment I thought he was about to question me again. My mind immediately began scrambling for excuses.
But he didn't ask anything.
Instead, he simply said, "Get some rest. I'll ask Molly to send some chicken soup over."
I blinked in surprise and looked at him.
I had already prepared myself for an interrogation. I didn't expect him to let me go just like that.
Before I could say anything, Finnick suddenly lifted his hand and gently covered my eyes.
"Sleep," he said quietly. "We'll talk when you wake up."
His voice was deep and calm, brushing against my ears like a soft feather.
The painkillers the doctor gave me were starting to take effect. My body felt heavy and drowsy. I nodded slightly and slowly drifted into sleep.
Strangely, it felt much easier to fall asleep with Finnick nearby.
Just before sleep completely pulled me under, I felt something warm touch my forehead.
