Point of View: Genesis
I watched the entirety of Sylvanas' Ascension.
When it ended, only one feeling remained within me.
I did not like it.
"I don't like this," I said in a low voice. "That Ascension was far too difficult."
Elena replied without changing her tone.
"But she survived."
"Yes… and that is what surprises me."
Silence lingered.
"The universe…" I continued slowly, "truly sees me as a threat. And it is trying to eliminate me."
Elena did not respond.
"It is using my own tools against me," I added, my voice tightening. "Since it can no longer change the rules, it seeks another way to harm me."
My thoughts sank deeper.
"It will try to kill my leaders. My pillars. Those who must protect me."
The weight of that conclusion pressed heavily upon me.
"However… Sylvanas has given me an opportunity."
Elena finally spoke.
"With her Ascension, the final condition has been fulfilled, Host."
There was a brief pause.
"I can now ascend."
The silence grew denser.
"I truly hope," I murmured, my voice restrained, "that this Ascension will allow me to change this situation."
Because if I fail…
If I cannot alter the course of events…
It will only be a matter of time.
Time… until some civilization succeeds in killing me.
