Chapter 44 - Chapter 43 — Rain, Gold, and Little Escapes

Month: Early October

Year: X775

Location: Magnolia · Fairy Tail Guild / Town Streets

Age: Kaito — 10 | Lucy — 8

---

Lysanna's first official day working in the guild began with chaos.

She stood behind the counter in a freshly pressed apron, posture straight, smile nervous but bright.

"Good morning, everyone!" she said.

A chair flew past her head.

"WELCOME TO FAIRY TAIL!" someone yelled.

She blinked once—then laughed.

"I think I'm going to like it here."

Mirajane beamed from the bar. "You'll do great, Ly. Just… duck when things start flying."

Erza nodded seriously. "And never turn your back during arguments."

Lysanna nodded very seriously.

Kaito watched from a table, amused. She fit in already—natural, gentle, but not fragile. When a drunk mage tried to flirt and slipped on spilled ale, she calmly handed him a towel and told him to sit.

Even Mirajane raised a brow.

She's learning fast.

Daily Rhythm — Training, Teasing, and Small Sparks

Mornings were for training.

Erza drilled sword transitions again, this time faster—cleaner.

Mirajane practiced controlled transformations, switching forms with playful ease.

Juvia trained water shaping nearby, rain hovering above her shoulders like a living halo.

Kaito moved between them, offering short advice.

"Relax your mana flow."

"Don't force it."

"Trust the form."

Juvia listened like every word was precious.

During breaks, Mirajane leaned close. "You're very popular today."

"I just talk."

"You smile," she corrected.

Erza watched from across the yard, unimpressed. "Focus."

Kaito did—but the way his eyes softened when Juvia succeeded didn't go unnoticed.

---

A Simple Mission — and an Unexpected Encounter

The request was small: escort and investigation near the commercial district.

Kaito took Juvia with him.

She was thrilled—and terrified.

"J-Juvia will not slow you down!"

"You won't," he said easily. "Just stay aware."

They walked under gray clouds, Magnolia bustling around them. Juvia's rain faded to a drizzle—controlled, gentle.

That's when they heard it.

"Move aside."

A sharp, refined voice. Annoyed. Young—but confident.

A blonde girl stood surrounded by two flustered shopkeepers, arms crossed, expensive clothes spotless despite the street.

"I said I didn't break it."

Kaito stepped in. "What happened?"

The girl looked him up and down. "They're accusing me because it's easier than blaming their own shelves."

Juvia tilted her head. "…She smells like money."

The girl gasped. "How rude! And accurate."

The shopkeeper stammered. "She bumped into it—!"

Kaito inspected the broken display. "The stand was cracked already."

Silence.

The girl smiled triumphantly. "See?"

She turned to Kaito. "You're smart. I'm Lucy."

"Kaito."

"Juvia," Juvia added softly.

Lucy studied her, eyes widening. "Whoa. You're beautiful. And… damp."

Juvia froze. "J-Juvia is—!"

"She's a rain mage," Kaito said.

Lucy grinned. "Cool. I like her."

Just like that.

---

Sneaking Out — Bad Influence Acquired

Lucy wasn't supposed to be wandering alone.

Lucy did not care.

"Come on," she whispered conspiratorially. "I hate escorts. Let's have fun."

Juvia hesitated. "Is… is this allowed?"

"No," Lucy said cheerfully.

Kaito sighed—then smiled. "Fine. But stay close."

They slipped through Magnolia like conspirators.

Food stalls.

Sweet bread.

Candied fruit.

Lucy laughed freely, unburdened, dragging Juvia from shop to shop. Juvia's eyes sparkled—this was new. Friends her age. No stares. No fear.

They tried dresses.

Juvia emerged from a shop in a soft blue dress, water-patterned silk flowing like rain.

Lucy clapped. "You look AMAZING!"

Juvia stared at herself, hands trembling. "J-Juvia… likes it."

Kaito bought it without hesitation.

She nearly cried.

Lucy noticed—and pretended not to.

---

Gifts — Chosen with Care

They didn't stop there.

Kaito picked carefully.

Juvia: a silver water-drop pendant, faintly enchanted to stay warm.

Erza: a sturdy leather wrist-guard with hidden reinforcement runes.

Mirajane: a moonstone necklace—soft, elegant, dangerous beneath beauty.

Lysanna: a charm bracelet with tiny animal symbols.

Cana: a deck case lined with mana-conductive wood.

Lucy: a small golden key-shaped pendant. Simple. Personal.

Gray: insulated training wraps.

Elfman: weighted gloves—"for manly growth."

Lucy watched him quietly.

"You're… really kind," she said.

He handed her the pendant. "A memory."

She clutched it, unusually quiet. "I'll keep it."

---

Rich Girl & Rain Girl

They ate until they were full, laughed until their sides hurt.

Lucy told stories of giant houses and lonely halls.

Juvia spoke of rain and learning control.

Kaito listened.

For once, no one asked him to lead.

As dusk settled, Lucy sighed happily. "Best day I've had in forever."

Juvia nodded. "Juvia agrees."

Lucy linked arms with her. "Promise we'll meet again."

Juvia smiled—bright, confident. "Juvia promises."

---

Back at Fairy Tail

They returned late.

Mirajane noticed the bags first. "Shopping spree?"

Erza crossed her arms. "Explain."

Lucy peeked out from behind Kaito. "Hi!"

Chaos followed.

But laughter won.

Later that night, Juvia held her pendant tightly, rain quiet above her window.

Lucy touched her own gift, smiling into her pillow somewhere far richer—and far lonelier than before.

And Kaito?

He looked at the sleeping guild, at the bonds growing wider.

Rain Girl.

Rich Girl.

Fairy Tail.

The world was getting louder.

And warmer.
