Nyx's POV
"What are you doing lying down like that?"
My eyes flew open at the sound of his voice. A groan tore from my throat as the sunlight hit me like a slap — sharp, merciless, blinding. I squeezed my eyes shut again, cursing under my breath, before slowly forcing them open. The world swam before it settled.
Kael stood over me, backlit by the sun like something carved out of light and arrogance. His shadow fell across my face — the only shade I'd had in what felt like hours.
He extended his hand toward me.
I stared at it. His knuckles were scarred. His fingers were steady in a way mine hadn't been since morning.
I didn't take it.
"I'm stuck." My voice came out rougher than I intended, scraped raw. "I cannot move a single muscle. Talking is already asking too much of me."
