The Spear Chosen in Silence
"I need to buy some new equipment for this quest, after that let's head out." Clara was surprised to hear Victor say this. She was so sure that he would just say, no need for preparations let's head out. Even Lane was surprised by what Victor said.
For a moment, neither woman answered.
It was such an uncharacteristically practical thing for Victor to say that both simply stared at him.
Then Clara narrowed her purple eyes.
"…You?" she said, suspicious. "Planning ahead?"
Victor's lips twitched.
"What, disappointed?"
"A little."
Lane let out a soft laugh she tried—and failed—to suppress.
The tension at the table loosened.
Yet Clara still looked unconvinced.
Usually Victor ran toward danger as if danger owed him money.
Preparation was… not his signature.
Which was precisely why hearing him mention equipment made the words land harder than they should have.
Lane studied him quietly.
There was something deliberate in his expression.
