BWDC:SDDK Chapter 20: Exchange Entry · Batman's Superpower

"...Nagamichi Group? This Nagamichi you're talking about, does everyone there have the Samsara Eye?"

Ren Ichimonji held his coffee, phone pressed to his ear with one hand, asking curiously.

It was already the second day after the Toto Bank Branch murder case ended.

One had to admit, Inspector Gordon was a solid guy to deal with.

He said that if the recording from the time was found, he wouldn't take Ren back to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for a statement, and he truly didn't. This saved Ren a lot of time to look for a "favorable location."

By "favorable location," he meant a rental apartment close to the Mouri Detective Agency.

Now, he just had to stand on his balcony and look across to see the window of the Mouri Detective Agency, where Kogoro Mouri himself was buried in a newspaper.

"What Samsara Eye?"

Conan, hiding in his room, was momentarily stunned.

His understanding of shonen manga was honestly quite limited; even after being a primary school student for a while, he was more familiar with special effects shows like Masked Yaiba and Gomera.

Ren's sudden mention of some "Samsara Eye" left him completely baffled.

However, Conan quickly pushed it to the back of his mind and continued explaining the situation.

"This time, it's a banquet invitation handled by a detective who knows my true identity and has collaborated with me before."

"The client is Dozo Nagamichi of the Nagamichi Group. The purpose seems to be for Uncle Mouri to help him find his first love... Well? Do you want to come along?"

--- Their agreement was that if Ren encountered a violent incident, he would come to help.

This request was just helping a chairman find a first love; logically, there was no need to mention it to Ren.

But! Only but... but this time, three detectives were actually involved!

Himself, Uncle Mouri, and Heiji Hattori!

As everyone knows, cases constantly attract detectives, making them seem a bit like jinxes.

Although he didn't think of himself as a jinx, considering the location of this request was a remote forest and detectives were gathering, he decided it was safer to bring Ren along as insurance.

Even though Ren seemed very unreliable.

However, based on the combat prowess Ren displayed against the bank robbers at the Toto Bank Branch...

At least he could ensure nothing unexpected happened at the crime scene, right?

"If you're coming, I'll tell Uncle Mouri, and you can ride in our car together!"

Conan said seriously.

At this, Ren's eyes lit up.

He felt his Bat-radar buzzing!

Even though Conan didn't say who the other detective was or what their name was.

Ren didn't even need to think; combining the two pieces of information—knowing Conan's identity and having collaborated with him—the person's identity was practically shouting at him.

Who else could it be but Heiji Hattori?

This description was basically the same as reading out Heiji Hattori's ID card.

Ren didn't remember the early episodes very clearly.

However, he remembered one thing vividly.

When Heiji Hattori and Conan appear in the same place at the same time, a violent incident will occur there 100% of the time.

He didn't remember what kind of extraordinary person this Dozo Nagamichi was.

But in short, going to the scene was definitely right. Maybe he could even snag a wave of points!

"No need to say more. Since it's an invitation from my youngest Robin, I definitely have to go!"

"Give me a time, and I'll head straight over!"

--- Who the hell agreed to be your Robin?

Conan's eyes narrowed slightly.

He suddenly felt that inviting Ren along might not have been a very correct idea.

...Forget it, the invitation was already extended; taking it back seemed bad.

He picked up the phone and said,

"We leave at two this afternoon. Do you know where Uncle Mouri's agency is?"

"Should I come pick you up?"

"The map of Beika Town you're carrying won't have the Mouri Detective Agency's location marked on it."

Hearing this, Ren simply replied,

"Then why don't you look up at the top floor across the street?"

Conan: ?

What? Could it be?

The "God of Death" primary student took his phone to the window. Looking up, he saw Ren standing by the window of the top floor opposite.

Admittedly, with Ren's appearance and temperament, even in simple clothes, just holding a coffee cup and leaning against the window gave him a sense of being at least a high-level white-collar professional.

If this guy became a model, he could probably make a lot of money.

Conan grumbled inwardly.

He picked up the phone and said crossly,

"Didn't you say you had no money? How do you have money to rent a place? And now you've moved right next to Uncle Mouri's agency?"

Could this guy have just purely scammed Dr. Agasa for some cash?

Dammit, deceiving an old man with a receding hairline—you "Bat-boy" can hardly be called human anymore!

"Oh, it's like this. Because you are the protagonist of the manga, all incidents revolve around you."

"Therefore, as the Dark Knight of this city, the Supreme Little Bat, I have an obligation to resolve the many violent incidents triggered by you—no need to thank me, it's what I should do!"

Before Ren could finish, a beep came from the phone.

Clearly, the call was disconnected.

He looked at the fuming "God of Death" primary student over at the Mouri Detective Agency and gave a contemptuous smile.

Little kid, a mere Robin trying to handle me, the Supreme Little Bat? Not a chance!

Putting his phone back in his pocket, Ren took another sip of coffee.

He turned his gaze to the system mall panel floating before him.

--- After defeating that loathsome "Riddler," the system had already displayed Batman's unique system mall to him. However, the special props inside cost hundreds or thousands; he couldn't quite afford them.

But other ordinary items were supplied in unlimited quantities.

For example, Batarangs, Bat-branded smoke bombs, and the like...

How should he put it—they were a bit expensive.

Because after Ren scrolled the system mall to the very bottom, he discovered a buried special item.

It could be purchased for one point.

And the name was very unique.

This special item was called [Batman's Superpower].

At the time, Ren found it hilarious.

He was Batman too; how did he not know Batman had superpowers?

So, he clicked it tentatively.

Then, 100,000 yen appeared in his bank account.

--- As everyone knows, Batman's greatest superpower is being rich.

Therefore, in the system's eyes, this superpower option was practically worthless, so it was placed at the very end.

But for Ren, this superpower had great potential.

For no other reason than this:

Buying a set of Batarangs or smoke bombs cost ten points, but the 100,000 yen exchanged for one point could get him several sets of props from Dr. Agasa! Wouldn't it be a loss to exchange directly for those ordinary items?

This was the reason Ren was wealthy now.

He spent ten points to exchange for a million yen!
