BWDC:SDDK Chapter 116: The Overseer Escapes... and How About Final Destination?

Two hang gliders circled in the sky.

The Bat was visibly drawing closer to the Spider.

Suddenly, Spider's eyelid twitched.

Was this some kind of joke?

He had never even seen a guy who could break free from illusions through sheer willpower alone. If it came down to a real fight, how could he possibly win?

Can this damn hang glider go any faster?

He turned his head to glance at Ren Ichimonji, who was rapidly gaining on him from behind.

Immediately, his expression shifted again.

We're both using hang gliders—why is yours faster than mine?

Spider was on the verge of shouting a string of curses, completely disregarding his usual composure.

Faster, faster, faster!

That lunatic COS-playing as Batman was about to catch up. Faster!

Behind him, the dark silhouette of Batman loomed closer and closer.

Just as a brutal, one-sided beating was about to take place in mid-air, Ren Ichimonji suddenly looked in a different direction.

His expression changed.

There was a flash over there.

A reflection.

It wasn't the kind of monocular telescope Hakuba Saguru used; it was a sniper scope.

Someone was actually perched at that vantage point with a sniper rifle!

Ren Ichimonji immediately adjusted the orientation of his hang glider.

In the next instant, a sniper bullet whistled through the air.

It grazed past Ren's cape.

However, because of this sudden maneuver, Ren's speed and altitude were both compromised.

The illusionist's hang glider vanished into the night at that very moment.

He had escaped.

Suzuki Financial Group Exhibition Hall.

Suzuki Sonoko opened her eyes dizzily.

She saw an unfamiliar ceiling.

Lying on the second floor, she felt dazed for a moment before rubbing her eyes and slowly sitting up.

What just happened?

Sonoko looked down at the main hall in confusion.

People were sprawled out everywhere, lying across the floor in total disarray.

There was no way everyone had just agreed to take a nap together.

She recalled seeing similar scenes on live TV before—Kaitou Kid using sleeping gas to knock out a large number of police officers... but strangely, why did she wake up before them?

Sonoko grozily touched her hair.

Those officers had been put to sleep more or less frequently in the past; they should have developed some resistance, right? Why were they waking up later than her? How odd.

Leaning against the railing, the cold touch of the metal helped Sonoko slowly regain her senses.

Then, she glanced to her side, still wondering what Kaitou Kid had done.

It took five full seconds before she suddenly realized something was wrong.

The person is gone!

"Oh no! Ren was stolen by Kaitou Kid! I didn't think the Kid was into that!"

Sonoko turned pale with fright, wondering where she should even start looking for him.

The next moment, the entire exhibition hall suddenly lit up.

Someone had activated the backup power.

Sonoko instinctively looked toward the backup power room and saw Ren Ichimonji standing right there.

At the same time, Hakuba Saguru stepped out from the stairwell on the other side.

He looked up, surprised to see a conscious Suzuki Sonoko at the second-floor railing and Ren Ichimonji standing by the backup power room. A sense of astonishment washed over him.

Someone actually managed to wake up early under these circumstances?

Do these two have a natural resistance to hypnosis?

Hakuba didn't say much.

He simply walked over to the capture net, pulled the walkie-talkie from Nakamori Ginzo's hand, skillfully adjusted the channel, and spoke to the officers outside.

"The operation failed. A large number of personnel are unconscious. Please bring people in to assist."

The doors of the exhibition hall were pushed open.

Dozens of police officers flooded in from the outside, gathering in the hall.

Beside Ren, Kuroba Kaito leaned against the wall, watching the chaos. He scratched his hair in frustration—it looked like there would be a lot to clean up later.

As for the matter regarding Spider, he would deal with that after they got back.

This wasn't the place for that conversation.

Mouri Detective Agency.

Conan sat on the sofa with a giant lump on his head, having already received a "Mouri Divine Punch." He looked utterly speechless.

This time, they had gone on an "expedition" to Teitan Elementary.

And the result? Those "Seven Wonders" were nothing but forced coincidences—a teacher's wig falling off, someone spilling paint, a thief getting scared away while trying to steal something, and so on.

A wasted trip, and he got a punch from Uncle Mouri for sneaking out at night.

If he'd known there wasn't a hint of danger, he wouldn't have gone. He would have been better off going with Ren to catch Kaitou Kid. Wouldn't that be better than exploring the school with the Junior Detective League and coming home to get beaten up?

The news program on TV had already announced yet another crushing defeat in the operation to capture Kaitou Kid.

Conan wasn't surprised by the result.

With a powerhouse like Ren Ichimonji on the scene, this outcome was to be expected.

Ever since seeing Ren's performance against the kidnappers at the Tokyo City Bank, Conan felt that Ren had intentionally let Kaitou Kid escape back on the Queen Selizabeth. Based on that display of strength...

If Kaitou Kid could last ten seconds against Ren, it would be a testament to the Kid's prowess.

This time, it was likely that Ren had helped out from the shadows, recovered the gem, and called it a day.

"Eh? Did Phantom Thief 1412 escape successfully again?"

Mouri Ran sat down next to Conan.

She gently touched the lump on Conan's head with a look of pity, sighed as she watched the news, and said, "If Shinichi were there, he would definitely have caught Phantom Thief 1412!"

Conan: ?

I'm involved in this too?

Still, those words weren't wrong. Once he gave Kaitou Kid's hang glider a taste of his power-kick soccer ball, the Kid would behave.

"Yeah, yeah! If Shinichi-niichan were there, he definitely wouldn't let Phantom Thief 1412 get away!"

Conan boasted of his own skills with a clear conscience.

However, he was still quite curious about what had actually happened at the scene.

He'd find an opportunity tomorrow to ask Ren.

As the "god-tier" detective who was actually there, Ren Ichimonji should know the full story.

Koizumi Akako sat on her bed, questioning her very existence.

Is... is this right?

This couldn't be right! She was the Red Witch, one of the few great mages left!

And yet, when she ran into that illusionist, she went down in seconds?

Weren't illusions supposed to be a lesser form of magic?

Or was that illusionist using some kind of "everything-and-the-kitchen-sink" mix of magic, illusions, and stage tricks?

She let out a long sigh.

Akako shouted loudly, "Bring me those clothes!"

The bedroom door was pushed open.

Her butler poked his head in, looking at Akako with confusion.

Akako then gritted her teeth and said, "I want the 'Ushi no Toki Mairi' ritual outfit!"

I can't beat you in a head-on confrontation.

But what if I use my magic crystal ball for real-time divination and remotely ramp up the pressure on you with magic?

Can you hypnotize me through a divination image in a crystal ball?

"I will have my revenge!" she declared loudly.
