Darrius's new companion woke him whining for food and to go out. He quickly tossed on a light jacket and stepped out of the little rental room. As the dog sniffed around Darrius made a mental plan of his first bike ride through the mountains.
The destination was an even more secluded town only about seven miles away. His backpack was already set up with supplies for him and Pip, which was his new nickname for the furry companion.
Darrius knew Leda wouldn't let him adopt Pip, but he couldn't help but think how loyal Pip seemed. Pip closed his eyes as Darrius pat his head a few times. It made him genuinely happy to see such a pure soul in the dog. The pair departed on their trail.

Sweat stuck to Darrius's face as he made his way through the make shift, overgrown trails. Looking down at his cell phone he noticed the reception wasn't very great.
" It shouldn't be too much trouble," he thought. Darrius had his map and compass with him surely he wouldn't be lost. Darrius was even more so pleased that no one could reach him on his little vacation.
He switched over to the motor on his bike to enjoy the lush scenery of the area. Pip trotted easily beside him. Smells of fresh wood and the lush growth quieted his mind. The calm feeling elevated throughout his body. Slowly however an uneasiness touched the edges of his peace
As the breeze his Darrius's face, he imagined he heard the soft song he had been manifesting in the nights of his nightmares. "Was it made up?"
It carried on the wind through the mountains and Darrius was either slowly going mad, or the acoustics were just right for a concert in the mountains.
It was close to midday already. As Darrius peddled he imagined he heard the singing becoming clearer... maybe closer. Pip yipped a few times as a rock formation slowly appeared in view.
