🩸🪽 DARK ARCHANGEL
Episode 8: When Heaven Hunts Love
The first sign was the birds.
They stopped singing.
Not gradually.
Not naturally.
One second the forest hummed softly with life. The next, silence fell like a blade.
Jun noticed immediately.
He was gathering fallen branches for a fire when the air changed — thick, electric, wrong.
"Azael?" he called quietly.
No answer.
His heart began to pound.
He followed the faint pulse he could now somehow feel — a strange, almost invisible connection between them that had formed since the Fall. It pulled him toward a clearing where Azael stood alone, back rigid, wings partially unfurled.
The sky above them was bleeding light.
Not sunlight.
Not clouds.
Golden fractures were spreading across the atmosphere like cracks in glass.
And through those cracks—
Figures.
Descending.
Jun's breath caught.
They were not human.
White wings vast and unblemished. Armor gleaming like forged starlight. Faces beautiful but devoid of warmth.
Heaven's Hunters.
Azael's voice was quiet.
"They've come."
Jun stepped beside him without thinking.
"How many?"
"Four," Azael replied. "That means they expect resistance."
The sky tore open fully.
Light speared down into the clearing.
The Hunters landed without sound, feet touching earth like judgment incarnate.
Their leader stepped forward.
His wings were larger than the others.
Pure white.
Untouched.
"Azael," he said calmly. "By decree of the Throne, you are to be reclaimed or erased."
Jun's fingers curled tightly around Azael's sleeve.
Azael's expression did not change.
"I am no longer yours to command."
The Hunter's gaze shifted to Jun.
"So this is the contamination."
Jun stiffened.
Azael stepped forward immediately, wings spreading fully in front of Jun.
"Do not look at him like that."
The Hunter's voice remained emotionless.
"You were once the Blade of Heaven. You know what we do to corruption."
Jun whispered, "Azael…"
Azael's voice was soft, but laced with iron.
"You will not touch him."
The Hunters moved simultaneously.
Jun barely had time to process what happened next.
Light exploded outward.
Azael launched forward, faster than sight, intercepting the first Hunter midair. The impact shattered trees nearby. The forest floor cracked under divine force.
The second Hunter raised his blade of light—
Jun screamed as a beam shot toward him.
Azael twisted mid-combat.
His wing intercepted the attack.
The sound was horrifying.
Feathers burned instantly.
The scent of something celestial and charred filled the air.
Azael fell to one knee.
Jun ran to him without hesitation.
"Are you crazy?!" Azael shouted hoarsely. "Stay back!"
"I'm not leaving you!"
The Hunters circled.
"You are weakening," the leader observed coldly.
Azael tried to stand.
His wings trembled violently.
Black energy flickered across his skin like unstable lightning.
Jun grabbed his arm.
"Azael—your eyes—"
They weren't just red now.
They were flickering.
Crimson to gold to black.
Unstable.
One Hunter lunged.
Azael snapped.
Darkness exploded outward.
Not shadow.
Not light.
Something in between.
The ground caved inward.
The Hunters were thrown back violently.
Jun stumbled, shielding his face from the blast.
When he looked up—
Azael was hovering slightly above the ground.
His wings had doubled in size.
Not physically — but in presence. They felt massive. Overwhelming.
The air trembled around him.
The Hunters hesitated.
For the first time—
They looked uncertain.
The leader narrowed his eyes.
"Your grace is corrupted."
Azael's voice echoed strangely.
"I chose love."
The Hunter lifted his blade again.
"Then you chose extinction."
They attacked together.
The forest became a battlefield of light and darkness.
Azael moved like a storm.
Faster.
Brutal.
But Jun could see it — every strike cost him something. Every movement flickered unstable energy through his body.
A Hunter managed to slash across Azael's chest.
Golden blood spilled.
Jun's scream tore through the clearing.
Something inside Azael broke.
The world went silent.
Then—
Black wings consumed the sky.
Not four wings.
Not six.
Countless shadows fanned out behind him.
The Hunters froze.
Azael's voice dropped into something ancient.
"You were sent to erase love."
The forest darkened completely.
"Then I will erase the hand that commands you."
The Hunters retreated instinctively.
One was too slow.
Darkness pierced through his armor.
He dissolved into particles of fading light.
The remaining three fled upward into the fractured sky.
The cracks sealed behind them.
And then—
Azael fell.
Jun caught him.
Or tried to.
They both hit the ground hard.
Azael's wings collapsed instantly, shrinking back into their torn state.
His skin was pale.
Too pale.
"Azael. Azael. Stay with me."
No response.
Jun pressed his ear to his chest again.
The heartbeat was there.
But irregular.
Fading.
Jun's hands trembled violently.
"You said we'd survive," he whispered desperately. "You said we'd rewrite Heaven if we had to."
Tears fell onto Azael's face.
"I can't lose you."
A faint whisper.
"…Jun…"
Jun leaned down instantly.
"I'm here. I'm here."
Azael's eyelids fluttered weakly.
"I couldn't… control it."
Jun shook his head fiercely.
"You protected me."
Azael's breathing hitched.
"I almost destroyed everything."
Jun cupped his face.
"You didn't."
Azael's eyes focused slowly.
Fear flickered there.
"Next time… I might."
Jun froze.
Azael's voice cracked.
"I felt it. Something inside me. It wasn't Heaven. It wasn't Hell."
Jun swallowed.
"What was it?"
Azael closed his eyes.
"It was power without balance."
Jun's chest tightened painfully.
Azael tried to lift his hand. It trembled halfway up before falling.
"I'm becoming something unstable."
Jun leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
"Then I'll be your balance."
Azael's breath caught.
"You don't know what you're offering."
Jun smiled through tears.
"I don't care."
He rested their foreheads together.
"You fell for me. Let me fall for you too."
Azael's eyes softened completely.
The darkness around them settled.
His breathing steadied slightly.
Jun shifted carefully, pulling Azael's head into his lap again like before.
"Rest," Jun whispered.
Azael's fingers curled weakly into Jun's shirt.
"…Don't leave."
Jun bent down, pressing a kiss into his hair.
"Never."
Above them, the sky remained whole for now.
But far beyond sight—
Heaven's Throne burned brighter.
And in the underworld—
Lucifer leaned back in his throne, smiling slowly.
"Interesting," he murmured.
Because something new had just been born on Earth.
Not angel.
Not demon.
Not human.
Something in between.
And it loved.
