Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: The Onion Knight's Shock

Shireen never expected that Drogon could not only understand the Common Tongue but could even write. She remembered that books didn't seem to mention dragons being able to write! They only said they were extremely intelligent and could understand human speech.

"I still don't know what your name is," Shireen asked hurriedly after realizing Drogon could write.

Since he had already been exposed, Drogon no longer hid his talents. He flew onto Shireen's small table, picked up her quill, dipped it in some ink, and wrote the two characters for "Drogon," followed immediately by: "Don't tell anyone."

"Mm! I definitely won't tell anyone," Shireen nodded her small head solemnly.

She knew that not only could she not tell anyone Drogon's name, but she also couldn't mention having seen him.

Although she was young, she knew how much of an impact the rebirth of a dragon that had been gone for over a hundred years would cause, and how many people would want to possess him—especially since Drogon was so intelligent.

Looking at the crooked letters Drogon wrote with his small claws, Shireen didn't find them ugly at all now.

She had just been laughing at how ugly the writing on the paper was, not realizing it had been written by Drogon's claws.

She knew how difficult it was to teach the Onion Knight to read; she had taught him for so long before he could barely read through a book, yet Drogon, as a little dragon, could already write.

"Can Greyscale really be completely cured?" Shireen still couldn't believe it and asked Drogon again.

Many people said she wouldn't live long when she was little. Eventually, her father visited famous doctors everywhere to get the condition under control, but the grey scales on her face would never fall off.

Because of it, she could only stay in her room since childhood; her mother let her go almost nowhere.

"It can be cured, but not now," Drogon continued to write.

Shireen didn't press further. As long as it could be cured, she could afford to wait, even if it took a bit longer.

Seeing that Shireen didn't ask more, Drogon roughly knew what she was thinking. But while she could afford to wait, her father could not.

Thinking of this, Drogon picked up the pen again and wrote: "Where is the Onion Knight?"

Shireen didn't expect Drogon to actually know the Onion Knight, Ser Davos Seaworth.

She said sadly, "Father said he is a traitor and locked him in the Dungeon."

"You can see him, right?" Drogon changed to a new piece of parchment.

"The guard, Kra, likes to drink. I can go to the Dungeon when he's on duty," Shireen answered.

"I will write a letter to him. You give it to him, but you must promise not to look at the contents inside," Drogon continued writing.

"I... promise!" Shireen said after a moment's hesitation, wondering in her heart what important content there was that she wasn't allowed to see.

Shireen didn't know that her father was no longer the good father who had visited famous doctors everywhere to treat her Greyscale when she was little. He had now become an ambitious Duke who only believed in the Red Woman and was single-mindedly focused on seizing the iron throne.

If Shireen knew that her dear Duke father was going to burn her to death, she would be heartbroken. It was simply too cruel for a ten-year-old girl.

After Shireen made her promise, Drogon spread out the paper to write to the Onion Knight. Only then did he realize he only knew him as the Onion Knight and didn't know his real name.

He stopped his pen and asked Shireen before starting to write again. Shireen, knowing Drogon didn't want her to see, proactively turned around.

"Ser Davos, before long, Stannis will burn Shireen's uncle to death, and after that, he will burn Shireen. If you don't want her to die, find a way to send her out of Dragonstone. I will contact you when the time is right; someone will meet Shireen then, and you won't stay in the Dungeon for long."

In the future, Davos would not fear punishment and would secretly release Robert's bastard. He cared for Shireen so much that he would absolutely find every possible way to save her.

After finishing, Drogon rolled up the parchment and asked Shireen for a piece of twine, letting her help tie it tight.

"Are you leaving again?" Seeing Drogon fly to the windowsill, Shireen was a bit reluctant to let him go.

She had no friends since childhood and now considered Drogon a friend. He gave her delicious food and said he could find someone to treat her face—if he wasn't a friend, what was he?

Drogon nodded, waved his scarlet wings at her, and kicked off with his feet, flying high into the sky.

Watching Drogon quickly turn into a black dot, although Shireen felt a bit down, she wasn't as lost as the first time Drogon left.

Even though Drogon didn't say when he would come to see her, Shireen knew he would definitely come back.

Looking at the letter in her hand, Shireen knew that even if she read it, Drogon wouldn't know. Moreover, the contents of the letter likely had a lot to do with her; otherwise, Drogon wouldn't have forbidden her from looking.

Resisting the urge to peek, she waited until the time Kra was guarding the Dungeon and went to find Davos.

Five minutes later, she arrived at the Dungeon. As expected, Kra was already fast asleep. Shireen walked to the outside of the bars.

Davos's hair and beard were already graying, and the burns on his face had not yet healed. Seeing Shireen, he walked over humbly to continue learning to read.

Shireen didn't take out a book; instead, she handed Davos a roll of parchment.

"Princess, what is this?" Taking the parchment, Davos was somewhat puzzled.

"Some... person asked me to give it to you. I don't know what's written inside either," Shireen told a small lie.

"Who would have the Princess bring a letter to me?" Davos untied the string with some confusion and unfurled the parchment.

He had been learning to read with Shireen these past few days and could already slowly read through books. Although he didn't recognize every word on the paper, he could understand the general meaning.

"Prin... Princess, who gave you this letter?" Davos's chest heaved as he asked with a trembling voice.

The contents were simply too shocking. Stannis would actually burn his own biological daughter to death.

"Ser Davos, he won't let me tell anyone about him. I've already promised him. What is written inside?"

She couldn't read it herself, but if Davos told it to her, that shouldn't count as a breach of contract, right? Seeing Davos's shocked expression, Shireen became increasingly curious about the letter's contents.

Davos could tell from her expression that Shireen hadn't read the letter. The letter wasn't sealed with wax; Shireen could have completely opened and read it on the way to the Dungeon, yet she hadn't.

From this, it seemed Shireen really had promised the letter writer she wouldn't read it, and she also trusted that person very much.

Although the contents of the letter were somewhat insane, according to news obtained from the pirate captain, soldiers who opposed the Red Woman were all defined by Stannis as Dark Servants, to be sacrificed to the lord of light when the Red Woman needed them to obtain revelations from the flames.

After the defeat at King's Landing, Stannis had completely followed the Red Woman's words. It really was possible he would burn his own biological daughter to death.

Having lost his sons, Davos already regarded Shireen, this kind and lovely princess, as his own daughter. How could he let her be burned to death by the Red Woman?

"Princess, do you think the person who gave you the letter is trustworthy?" Since Shireen was unwilling to reveal the sender's identity, Davos could only inquire indirectly.

"Of course he's trustworthy. He even said he would find someone to cure my face." She had one hundred percent trust in the dragon, Drogon.

Davos knew that while Shireen looked innocent and lovely, she wasn't stupid at all. She could distinguish for herself who was good to her and who was not.
