After Faye Vaughn finished her examination and received an injection, the doctor and nurse both left.
The room was unusually quiet.
She waited for Wyatt Hawthorne, but he didn't come back.
A maid knocked and entered, bringing Faye the purse she had left behind at the karaoke bar.
Faye Vaughn took out her phone and called Wyatt Hawthorne.
"Are you... busy?" she asked softly.
On the other end of the line, Wyatt Hawthorne's voice was flat. "Your test results are back. There's nothing serious. Get some sleep, and you'll be fine by tomorrow."
Faye Vaughn: "Oh. So you're not coming back."
She got the message.
Wyatt Hawthorne only said, "Get a good night's sleep."
The line went dead.
Faye Vaughn closed her eyes and thought for a moment. 'Old Master Hawthorne must have said something to Wyatt. That's the only reason his attitude would turn so cold.'
'Such an untrustworthy old man.'
