Through generations of intermarriage with several of the Central Province's most influential families, they've woven a massive web of connections. In the past, the Holy Lotus Sect had to consider its dignity as an Upper Sect, so they couldn't press the Shen Family too hard, lest their subordinate powers become disloyal and estranged."
