When Lu Jingxing entered the room, he saw Mu Wan Yun asleep in her clothes. 'So much for the etiquette she was supposed to have learned these past two days,' he thought.
He carried the bowl of medicine over and gently nudged her. "Wake up. Wash up and take your medicine."
Mu Wan Yun was utterly exhausted. Roused by Lu Jingxing's nudging, she mumbled drowsily:
"Six, add six. Six, subtract four, carry one. Six, move back one, return four. Six and three make five… Zhong Shanggong, I remember it all. I'm just so tired. Please, let me sleep for a bit."
He recognized the words she mumbled in her sleep—they were the abacus mnemonics taught to children of four or five.
Lu Jingxing said, "Enough with the abacus. It's time for your medicine."
Lu Jingxing held the medicine out to her, but Mu Wan Yun had already drifted back to sleep.
Seeing how truly exhausted she was, Lu Jingxing frowned and sent for Zhong Shanggong.
