The private chamber was in the rear courtyard of Golden Wind Hall. Dappled shadows from the surrounding bamboo blocked out the noise from outside. Sunlight filtered through the carved window lattice, and combined with the curling sandalwood incense, it created a dreamlike atmosphere.
Hong Xin invited Gu Zhao to sit and offered him fragrant tea.
Gu Zhao took the teacup and asked, "Brother Hong, are you the Steward of this Golden Wind Hall?"
"That's right!" Hong Xin grinned. "The Sect Leader took a liking to me and made me a Divine Altar General."
Perhaps he was feeling particularly proud, or maybe the question had stroked his ego. It could also be that he was back on his home turf and no longer felt the need to be cautious.
