Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Alone

Although you can't cast a second spell while you're in the middle of casting the first one.

However, once a spell's Skill Proficiency levels up, it can trigger effects like double, triple, or even quintuple-casting.

Unfortunately, these rapid-fire casts still only count as a single casting.

'If it counted as five, that would be five times the Skill Proficiency.'

"Level 80..."

Lu Cang murmured to himself.

'Time to switch to Fireball.'

After Level 80, the number of casts required to level up again was just too high.

Lu Cang decided it was better to get a basic grasp of all three spells Iz had left for him first.

The second was Fireball.

"Scorching, burning Flame."

"In my palm, coalesce and take form."

"Fireball, burst forth."

BOOM!

A mass of Flame condensed into a roiling, burning Fireball, completely different from the flames he had previously gathered from raw Elements.

This Fireball had a higher temperature, and...

...it could be thrown.

BOOM!

Lu Cang shot the Fireball toward the sky!

The Fireball exploded in a flash of light mid-air, followed by the faint sound of an explosion in the distance.

'This seems a bit... loud.'

Compared to the silent Ice Cone, the Fireball's explosion was certainly noisy.

'Still, it's not too bad.'

"Fireball, burst forth."

WHOOSH!

He threw another Fireball, this time with a shortened chant.

...

「In Iz's room.」

Chi Cheng, Kumironi, and Obades were gathered around the dining table in the suite's living room.

In front of Iz and Kumironi were plates of delicate pastries. Before Chi Cheng sat a plate of steak.

Obades had nothing in front of him.

Kumironi cradled a cup of hot tea and asked, "Iz... what do you think of young Lu Cang's Talent?"

Iz cut a piece of cake and popped it into his mouth before replying, "His Magic Talent is truly incredible. Top-tier Elemental Affinity, top-tier Magic Affinity, and top-tier comprehension."

"He's not that far behind me, even."

Kumironi said, "That's high praise indeed."

Iz nodded. "I've taught many students. To achieve No Chanting Casting, they often need to practice a single spell tens of thousands of times."

"Even those with a Talent for mastering Skill Proficiency only manage to reduce those tens of thousands of repetitions to a little over ten thousand."

"Yet he managed to master No Chanting after just three casts."

"I've never seen such a Talent for Casting before."

Kumironi held his tea and smiled. "But compared to a certain Mage who was born with the ability to cast without Chanting, he's still a ways off, isn't he?"

Izparut smiled confidently. "Not everyone can be me."

Kumironi asked again, "So what are your plans now?"

Iz thought for a moment before answering, "My original plan was to train him into a Mage with enough power to protect himself, then use my name to recommend him to the Lorentz Magic Academy in the Lorren Kingdom."

"That way, after graduating as a Level 2 or Level 3 Mage, he'd be able to make a life for himself in the Lorren Kingdom."

"Lorren is a relatively peaceful Kingdom. He should be able to live a good life there."

Kumironi chuckled. "That was just your original plan. What about now?"

A smile spread across Iz's face. "Kumironi, you really do know me well."

"Now that I've seen his Magic Talent, I've decided to personally train him into the most exceptional Mage."

Kumironi asked, "Second only to you?"

Iz replied, "Second only to me."

Chi Cheng, who was leaning back in his chair and picking his nose, cut in, "Iz, is there no chance he could surpass you?"

Iz stroked his chin, a pleased look on his face. "Hmm, I suppose I do have to consider that Possibility."

"A Mage who could surpass me? Haha, that's certainly something to look forward to!"

"If that day ever comes, it'll be magnificent!"

Iz glanced up at the ceiling.

The Elemental fluctuations from upstairs never ceased. Lu Cang was tirelessly practicing his Magic.

Through Magic Power Perception and magical detection, he could clearly sense that Lu Cang's Casting improved with every single spell.

Chi Cheng asked, "So you're not coming with us to hunt the Earth Sub-dragon Monarch tomorrow?"

Iz replied, "The three of you should be enough. I plan on taking him to a Dungeon."

Chi Cheng asked, "Which one? The Level 6 Cave of Desperate Wails?"

Iz said, "That one's too difficult for him. I don't plan on getting involved this time. I'm taking him to the Level 2 Dark Jungle."

...

He practiced Casting late into the night until sleepiness washed over him again.

His Ice Cone Skill, Fireball Technique, and Wind Blade had all been trained to Level 80.

The Level of his Magic Tide had also been raised to Level 99.

After the novelty of Magic wore off, Lu Cang finally lay down on his bed again, staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling.

A sudden wave of sadness washed over him.

Lu Cang thought of his home again.

Since arriving, his mind had been consumed with matters of this world.

Only now, in the quiet, did his thoughts drift elsewhere.

He thought of home.

'My parents... are they okay?'

'The airport... was there an explosion?'

'Do they know I'm dead?'

'After I came here, is time frozen for them, or is it still moving...?'

'Will I ever have a chance to go back?'

As the sadness welled up, tears streamed uncontrollably from his eyes.

Ultimately, the novelty of this Otherworld couldn't wash away the pain of being separated from his home.

In truth, Izparut's assumption wasn't wrong.

He had been randomly transported to this world...

And he could never return to his home.

Grief crashed over him like a tidal wave. Lu Cang wrapped himself in his blanket, curling into a ball on the bed.

...

When he opened his eyes again, sunlight was already streaming through the window and onto his bed.

Unfamiliar surroundings. A foggy mind.

Lu Cang stared blankly for a long time before remembering where he was.

The events of the past two days still felt as unreal as a dream.

Lu Cang couldn't remember how he had fallen asleep last night.

He only remembered that he had been crying continuously.

But now that he was awake, he felt much better.

The thought of home no longer brought such overwhelming sadness.

Perhaps that was why Izparut hadn't stayed for long last night.

He was giving him Time to be alone.

'He really is a kind person.'

Kumironi and Izparut had both left a very good impression on Lu Cang.

And though he hadn't interacted much with Chi Cheng and Obades, they seemed like good people too.

Chi Cheng was adored by the town's residents, no less than Izparut was.

And it seemed he was particularly popular with the older men and women.

After getting up and washing his face, he remembered that Kumironi had given him a new set of clothes last night.

Compared to the coarse linen clothes he had been wearing, this outfit was far more refined.

It was made of silk that felt smooth to the touch.

What he put on was a Magic Robe.

「Thousand Silk Robe」

「Quality: excellent」

「Defense Effect: Weak」

「Special: Slightly increases Casting Efficiency (Activated by a Level 1 Mage)」

'So this is how equipment works.'

There are no Level restrictions to wear equipment, but you need to reach a certain Level to activate any Special Effects.

Otherwise, wearing it is just for show.

Once he was dressed and ready, Lu Cang glanced at the clock on the wall.

Ten o'clock.

'Looks like I slept in.' Patting his cheeks, Lu Cang walked out the door.
