Leo's hand gripped the handle of the interrogation room's iron door.
The cold touch of the metal sent a chill through his palm, and the steady rhythm of his heart faltered.
The deal had been struck.
Luigi Randall had agreed to be the knife, to slice open the dark secrets of the medical giants in court. He had agreed to use his own trial to support Leo's Mutual Aid Alliance plan.
It should have been a perfect ending.
As the Mayor, Leo had gained a trump card; as an avenger, Luigi had been given a stage.
Each got what they needed.
But Leo's feet felt as if they were nailed to the floor, unable to move.
If Luigi really went to court, really followed the plan to make his accusations and fight the entire system, only one outcome awaited him.
The death penalty.
Or life imprisonment without parole.
This young man would spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security prison, in a concrete box just a few feet on each side, until he rotted away.
