Sheryl Sawyer saw how heartbroken Lucy Summers looked, and her own heart ached so much she wanted to cry.
"Lulu, what did you hear?"
"It turns out… it turns out I really was bought." Lucy Summers choked out. "It turns out they have savings, and they're planning to buy a house for my little brother when he comes of age, and make me pay the mortgage."
Sheryl Sawyer's brow tightened. "How could they do that?" she said indignantly.
"They have savings to buy their son a house, but not enough money to send you to college?" Michelle Fuller looked completely speechless. "I suspect you've been PUA'd."
Renee Jennings thought for a few seconds, then asked softly, "Lulu, did they see you?"
"No." Lucy Summers sniffled and shook her head. "I was changing my shoes. They were eating dinner."
"I just had an idea," Renee Jennings said, looking at Lucy Summers. "Do you want to hear it?"
Lucy Summers nodded. "Okay."
Renee Jennings glanced around. "Let's talk somewhere else."
